As is usually the case on the weekends... I work on a project that I want to work on and this weekend it is a Rat Fink-inspired ride.
Plenty of hot rod ques and inspirations... not to mention styling ideas from the Fink himself... Ed Roth, may he rest in peace! (Love that guy,)

Totally COOL!

Looks like the Rat's wearin' Candies on the rear in pic #1 and a bent front axle and something like Pro-Track's in pic #2?

(In pic #2, three of those cars are my FAVORITEST Sprints in the WORLD!)

Finished the "Ride of the Rat" this evening.... ! Should have been done yesterday but other stuff got in the way.
Posted Image

The ol'Fink himself looks quite comfortable in there....
Posted Image
Side windows were removed so the big injected rat motor can breath!

The front headlights were cleaned of paint and new vac-formed reflectors added for realism.
A side note is that I, like others, thought that these vintage Dubro bodies were painted in a clear tint and then silver...
NOT the case! These bodies were formed in colored Lexan, Byuterate or Acetate and then painted silver. Very interesting!
Posted Image

Under the sheets we find a Dynamic chassis and K&B Bobcat 36D motor-vation with paintbrush ferrels used as for a duel stinger exhaust!
Posted Image

Some parting notes as the "Fink" drives away....
This project was built with all vintage or repro parts. The decals and engine details were from MPC repop's of Roth trike kits (Thanks to John at Retro Hobby!) The Fink was from a key chain toy... and no more need be said....

It seems like my car has either inspired others to post their "Rat rides" in solidarity of this build or my thread has been completely stolen as a way to show off other builds.... I'm not totally sure as only a couple people commented on this build-up.

I am now considering parting-out the "Ride of the Rat" for other projects.

Jarius, your Rat Fink Beetle is one badas- ride fella!!! :shok: I luv it man!!!!!!!!!!! so when you part it out to another, it will remain an inspiration to others to share and to build a Rat Fink car of their own, due to your posting it here. Well done!!!

I have a flower power 60's plastic model kit, complete with a decal sheet of funky flower power flowers.....i plan to make that into some type of 60s era slot car madness, maybe another Rat Fink driven hot rod, who knows???!!

FYI

If anyone cares... I have placed the Rat Fink up for auction.

As of this post, there are two bids and eleven watchers. It will sell and so far barely covering the cost of all the parts. Oh well...

Jarius, no fear as I think this will easily top $150. Appeals to so many, Roth freaks, VW freaks, and worst of all us slot car freaks :D . Also you being "famous" and all can't hurt! I bet if you offer a kind of signed and numbered thing it will bring up the value.

The only thing holding it back is that Dynamic chassis which always seems to hold values down on these vintage type builds. I wish you the best in these hard economic times.

Thanks, Joe!

I hope so... however, my plan on this one was as a bolt-together rather than a scratchbuilt car.

Hi Jairus,

Don't worry about the current bid. Usually you won't know what it will sell for until the final seconds. Thanks for sharing it with us and I hope it goes for mucho dinero! :good:

Hi Jairus,

Correction, make that ten watchers. It's bookmarked in my eBay, but unfortunately there's not going to be a bid from myself, as Joe pointed out the price will prolly be greater then my pocketbook will allow.

It's a great build! Just curious how much someone will pay? Or does pay for vintage cars.

In other words, I'm watching it just because it's you! And I'm a BIG fan of your artistic skills. :D
