Six locals showed up to race Late Model NASCAR and Econo at STR on 8/29/16. Track conditions were quite good. Racing was close and competitive. Records were challenged but not broken. Below are some featured rides.

Econo

Rich and Jack battled it out for the podium. Both cars were quite evenly matched. Richs Chevelle turned a fast lap of 5.317 seconds while Jacks fast lap time with his blue Charger was only a whisker slower at 5.328 seconds. Rich ran a clean race with no offs for a very high consistency of 96.92%. Jack also ran a very consistent race (96.13%), however, he had a single off and that may have made all the difference. Rich finished with 87.5 laps challenging for the best lap count in the class. Jack was second about a lap behind and James was third about three laps behind Jack. Looking back a history for this class, the highest lap count of 88.3 laps was Bobs blue and yellow Chevelle was achieved back in January of 2015 while Jack driving a yellow Dodge ran a fine 87.7 laps back in December of 2015.

A few observations are in order. First, Jack gave us a break running his number two ride. Second, Bob was sandbagging big time. In earlier races his red Chevelle ran at least a half second per lap faster than in the current race. Below is an image of the grid and details of the finishing order.

NASCAR

Jack, James, Bob and Rich fought it out for the podium in Late Model NASCAR. Rich pushed hard to keep up with the other three and made several unforced errors putting him out of contention. The other three all ran fine and consistent races (around 96%). In the end, the quickest of the three prevailed. Jack was first finishing with 91.4 laps. James finished only a few sections behind while Bob was third. Again, the total lap record was challenged but not exceeded. The lap record of 92.3 was set by Bob in November of 2015. In that same race, James Lumina turned 92.1 laps.

As a note of interest, lap totals could have been higher if Jack and/or Bob ran their number one rides. Below is an image of the grid and details of the finishing order.
