I've had several queries recently about the upcoming Boola Bash and what's happening this year..... are we still running the Nascar Enduro, what about Retro Pro and so on. The schedule will be the same as last year and YES the Enduro and Retro Pro will be on again!
The Boola weekend will begin with Retro Pro on Friday, October 21st with tech inspection at the usual time of approximately 6PM. Saturday, the 22nd will feature the Nascar Enduro followed by F1 and Sunday the 23rd will be Can Am and all races will be on the King track.
Saturday, will see the Nascar Enduro start the day with tech inspection beginning at an early 9AM SHARP! Be ready as we hope to start the race no later than 9:30. We did a great job last year of moving things along with no delays and hope to do the same this year as another race will follow. Thanks everyone! There will be no qualifying and lane choices will be determined be Concours placing. All the rules will be the same as last year with the exception of lane changes. Last year lane change was 1 minute but you were allowed to work on the cars. This year it will also be one minute but NO working on the cars and the only thing to be done to the cars is to move them to the next lane and change the sticker accordingly. The cars will NOT be allowed to be removed from the track during lane changes and all work on the cars will be done during racing conditions and the cars must be removed from the track for service on the short straight between the finger and the 90 degree under the bridge. Again, like last year, the track calls will be kept to an absolute minimum. The only track calls will be under the bridge or cars in totally inaccessible areas. If all 8 cars are off the track on the floor or 8 cars are in a trash can and can be reasonably retrieved by the marshalls then the power will remain ON and no track call. All teams will run 16 heats of 12 minutes each which works out to be a 3 hour and 12 minute race.
The Nascar stockers are basically Retro anglewinder Coupes with a longer wheelbase at a minimum of 4 1/2" and with a Nascar body. The 4 1/2" wheelbase will be strictly enforced so check your WB carefully.
Last year everyone just kind of organized themselve into the 10 teams and we'll let everyone do the same thing again this year. We suggested 4 drivers per team but allowed 3 and 5 and we'll be pretty open about this again this year. Last year the 10 teams were........
HI TECH 2 Ben Cervantes Sr, Ben Cervantes Jr, James Grinstead
ONE ADAM 12 Vic Dubrowsky, Hector Gonzales, Jim Watterson, Tom Schiavo
HI TECH 1 Tim Neja, Sam Rackham, Tim Hould
TEAM BURRO Phil Nyland, Marc Franco, Mill Conroy, Bryan Warmack, Philippe deLespinay
TEAM TRUJILLO Duran Trujillo, Henry Trujillo, Alex Freund, Bill Vanderziel
PINK WEENIES Don Campbell, Dennis "Foamy" Hill, Rick Linn, Bob Crane
FOAMY 2 Jim Lane, Chuck Vaughn, Max Bowers, John Hegedus, Jimi Bling
JET CITY John Cukras, Terry Schmid, John Wakamatsu, Dennis Rios, Earl McCutcheon
INNOVATIONS TJ Albu, Nesta Szabo, Jerry Johnson, Jason Holmes
MUSIC POLICE Jay Henry, Eddie Shorer, Daniel Vaca
I know several local racers who didn't participate last year for one reason or another and if we need to add another team or 2 it shouldn't be an issue as things moved along smartly and running F1 after the Enduro was no problem whatsoever. F1 tech will begin about an hour after the conclusion of the Enduro and the last race of the Boola weekend will be Can Am on Sunday with tech beginning at 10AM.
Teams for the Nascar Enduro can sign up here on Slotblog and we'll also have a sign up sheet at Buena Park. Spread the word!!
