Six locals were joined by Mark from Grants Pass to race Vintage NASCAR and ProTrack NASCAR at STR on 9/12/16. Welcome back Mark! Jack was conspicuously absent due to severe allergies (not uncommon for this time of year), while Terry is suffering from a much more severe ailment. We wish him the best.

Bob cleaned and sprayed the track since our last event and conditions were excellent for these two classes of cars. James outdistanced the field in the ProTrack winning easily. Bob and James dominated the Vintage NASCAR race but in the end Bob prevailed in a very close contest.

Below are images of some featured rides.

The most popular ride in this class is the 1985 T-Bird. Three Birds populated the grid of seven cars. James orange and white T-Bird continues to dominate the class and holds both the total lap and fast lap records. In fact, in seventeen appearances since April, 2013 the car has finished in the top spot twelve times and has never failed to finish on the podium.

Well folks, this week was no different. James Bird was the quickest ride turning a near record fast lap of 5.498 seconds and finished first with 82.5 laps. Mark ran a very consistent race (95.08%) to finish second ahead of Bob and Rich both of whom had quicker rides. Bob ended up on the bottom step of the podium. Kudos to Ron who ran a consistent race (94.4%) to finish fourth. Prior to the race, Rich replaced an old Cheetah motor with a Falcon 2. This improved his fast lap times by nearly .2 seconds per lap. Going into the final heat, Rich was within striking distance of a second place finish. Late in the heat, James de-slotted in the bow tie turn blocking Rich who did not see James in time. A spectacular crash ensued ending Richs bid for a podium finish.

For years, the 57 Chevy has been the ride of choice in this class. That is changing. Several competitors have switched to the 50 Olds and it is challenging the Chevy for dominance.

This week, it was a battle between Bob and James, both driving the aforementioned 50 Olds. Bob recently made the switch from 57 Chevy to 50 Olds and commented that Olds was a dream to drive. I guess that showed with Bob finishing in the top spot with 87.8 laps and a fast lap time of 5.17 seconds. James challenged Bob for the top spot but fell short by about a half of a lap. Richs yellow 57 Chevy was a distant third.
