Here's something you don't see for sale everyday, Gurney prototype. No box though.    :sarcastic_hand:

Listing text:

"Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a peice of Cox slot car history. This is the Original Cox prototype of the Famous Dan Gurney Galaxie. This prototype was used to make the most desirable slot car of them all, the Cox Dan Gurney NASCAR Galaxie. This car was previously owned by slot car and racing legend Philippe De Lespinay. Don't miss this chance to own a one of a kind peice of Cox slot car history! Additional photos provided upon request."

Greg,

Can we get PdL to speak of this car's history? His first book shows a prototype with an unplated chassis but doesn't show this car. The eBay write-up for this car included a statement that this car had been loaned to the LASCM for display. That statement has now been removed. If this indeed was a valuable Cox prototype, and if he ever had it, I doubt Scott Bader would have let it out of his sight. But what is it other than a car with Cox decals and stickers?

I split Bill's question off into this new thread, as it is likely we'll have someone who knows the story posting in response soon.

That's it.

I'm selling all my cars to Philippe. He'll sell them back and then I can ask crazy money for them on eBay. :laugh2:

To respond to Bill, Scott was offered this car by the former owner at a time when the economy was a bit of a disaster and cash was not available to buy expensive slot cars. So he declined.

Now he is looking at it of course, but the price is simply too high.

The car was never on display at the LASCM, but the pictures shown with a LASCM copyright were taken many years ago, explaining that.

This car is only one of several pre-production Galaxies, in fact besides the original car featuring a Toronado body, there were several more in my possession. One with a Pontiac GTO body was sold to a collector in Spain, and the LASCM now owns two more, using actual production parts but in an unfinished state (body mold not detailed yet, brightwork unplated, etc. (including one fitted with a GE motor that was eventually rejected).

It would be nice to get this one back, but financial considerations have to be taken and at this time, with the large LASCM slot cars and static kits museum room in its final configuration (all that's missing are the special LED-lit shelves and glass enclosures, now in the making), large purchases have to be set aside.

It appears that this gentleman is slowly disposing of his collection. I purchased a Cuc from him earlier this summer and then corresponded with him after the purchase. At first I thought he was just getting rid of duplicates but it now looks like this is no longer the case.

Anyways, just continue to bid on the stuff that I don't want but please refrain from bidding on the stuff that I want to purchase.

eBay posted the auction had ended, but didn't post a selling price. No selling price indicates it wasn't sold through eBay, if it was sold at all.

Frank, was that your car?
