Joe, when I look at items like these, I think that they actually are not important to me as a collector. If they were in one of my cases, they wouldn't really mean much to me. The average person looking at them wouldn't think they were anything special. You could easily make a clone of that Gurney if you felt that it was something you had to have. The proto Toronado seems much more important, I think. The dune buggy is a rare one and like all of Volshens stuff it is mint. Those bodies were around a few years ago and you could also build a copy of it if you wanted. If slot cars are worthy of having a museum (who will really care in 30 years), those items are better off where they can be shared. If Philippe wasn't publicizing, posting and Writing about such stuff who would even know about the importance of some of this stuff.

If you have them in a home collection and have a break in, fire or water damage you have nothing and they are lost forever. After having most all cars that have importance in vintage collecting, none of them have as much importance to me as the scratch built Chap 2D I built in 1965/66!

#1: That was discussed HERE, and appears to be a reasonably important piece of slot car history, albeit not in the best of condition. Some people collect that stuff, but doesn't really interest me to own, but love seeing it.

#2: Nice-looking car. Dunno if Russkit did one like it, but looks like nice recent paint job, on a not too bad Russkit chassis. It seems to be going for a truck load of $, so some think it to be worth it!!

Thanks, Yes, Voleshen has some fantastic looking cars he puts up for sale. I like that many are top down and have a driver figure. He really has a great creative talent.

The Gurney looked a little too "proto" like but I guess it's legit. Theres really only one place that car belongs and hopefully it may end up there. I have a feeling it will.

Bill from NH,

Is the eBay guy here and can tell you if I'm right or wrong, but it seems to me the Stock Car was listed previously and didn't sell.

What does that tell you?

I only saw the Gurney Ford listed once, for $5,000. That eBay listing ended early, but it wasn't sold. I assume that someone offered a cheaper, but more accurate price. Maybe the LASCM, but PdL said they owned two other similar prototypes?

I think this the same listing that appeared on the RSS feeds used to place it in the Slotblog eBay forum. It has only been on the forum once.

Some of the cars listed by this seller may have been built by Bill Wessels. Philippe has commented on the Cox proto saying it is legit but out of the price range of the museum at the time it was for sale. It is a car that could easily be cloned.

An original Russkit Dune Buggy is always medium metallic blue. Drivers are generally painted in a pale metallic green, but also pale blue.

Just so that you guys know before plugging good cash.
