AFAIK, the first commercial, ground, true 2 degree, angled guide tongue.

Made from .050", full hardened, spring steel. Precision ground to provide correct guide rake.

Only $5.50 each. Standard discount available to raceways. Available through Eagle Dist.

Available in 1-2 weeks, possibly less.

Shown upside down, to clearly display 2 degree angle.

Two tongues, right side up, nose to nose.

Slightly wider and longer than my popular .042' "small" tongue. .5 grams heavier.

On the slight chance anyone is interested in the non-ground version of the tongue, they are only $4 retail.

Again, a full discount is available to raceways.

I thought these would take a little longer, but my grinder guy got a' grindin', and at least got some done right away.

For those wondering how you know these are 2 degrees, you use the device (pun intended) in the pic below, to make the grinding fixture.

Works well. Slots in tongue allow you to flow the solder in.

Cheers

Thanks, Bill.

Flow it in, or confirm solder you have applied from the perimeter, has flowed all the way, underneath.

Mike,

I've had a question about these guide tongues for a while now.  With the car set up with tires on all around the chassis is accually raked downward from the rear to the front.  So with using this two degree tongue does it let the guide sit level with the track or is there a slight upward attitude of the guide.

I've never used one, or seen a car with one, just curious.

I haven't built a chassis with one, so I can't say for sure.

Cap just showed a chassis, he built with one, in the scratchbuilt chassis gallery.

Maybe he'll chime in, when he sets the car, up into a roller.

Regardless, it will be predicated by the rake on your particular car.

IOW, a car will obviously have more rake if it is at the minimum front clearance, .015", vs. being at say .030".

Best I can do is give you a visual how it's sits on a flat surface.

Assuming a nominal .050 clearance at the rear and .015 at the front the resulting chassis angle is just half a degree.  Therefore Mikes guide tongue should yield a 1.5 degree "up angle".

Here's the calculation:   .035" / 4" = .00875"  ->  arcSin .00875"= .5 degrees  ->  2 degrees - .5 degrees = 1.5 degrees

Obviously if you have different clearances at the front or rear this will change the resulting angle.

A good rule of thumb for figuring (small) angles is .017" per inch per degree.  An example would be if you had a one inch long block and it was touching the ground on one end and raised .017" at the other it would be lying at a one degree angle.

Jay is correct.

The car with .050 rear clearance and .015 front clearance the guide still has a slight up angle.

These are really nice pieces

I recently built an F1 chassis with the 2 degree tongue and bracket. Guide angle is perfect. The slots on the tongue help when soldering too!

Big congrats to Dale Yamashita on his win, in CanAm, at the BP King track race this past Saturday, using the C/R 2 degree tongue on his Tony P chassis.

As shown, Dale also used the C/R pinned, RF guide.
