Most readers will know of the fabulous Playland Modelcar Raceways that was part of the Playland at the Beach entertainment center in the San Francisco area for years. The postcard image of Playland's American 220 ft. Sovereign has received wide exposure. Here it is again, if you haven't seen it.
Just stumbled upon a recent website on the whole Playland facility and there's a section on the raceway with a number of pics I'd not seen before. For example, this pic of the outside of the raceway.
From the page on the raceway, "Opening in 1965, the Model Car Raceway was popular with many local kids. George Whitney Jr and brother-in-law Floyd Gilman came up with the idea of starting the raceway. Numberous track layouts along with a retail car and parts shop kept interest high for about four years. By 1969, the model car frenzy died out enough that attendence dropped... it closed soon after."

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Thanks, Greg. What a great space for slot racing.
Looked through the photos, but would love to see some closeups of the counter area.
