So I was in the neighborhood. All the front glass is gone, but the rear "Big Jim's" door is still there.

I can just hear Mrs Jones yelling, "Boys, wipe your feet!"

As Big Jim would say, "Somebody's got to eat it, geek, and you ate it" as your car launched and splattered itself into tiny pieces in the bank.

Any pictures of the place from back in the day?

I remember the close by bagel bakery, where you could get still warm from the oven fresh-baked bagels.

Mmm... mmm... good!

Cheers.

I can't remember any race reports with pictures from there. Would be in one of the NY slot racing newspapers if at all.

Was the main track at Glen Oaks a blue King or an American red? My memory fails me, among other things.  :shok:

Cheers.

Blue King. They also had a Hillclimb. Not sure if there was a third track.

Theyshop was beautiful but had the worse King on the NY/NJ circuit. The main straight just launched even with blipping sometimes.

When you walked in the front door, you were met by a banked American black. The Hillclimb was in the back left and the blue King was along the west wall.

"No battery power before 5 PM!" Was Mr Jones' mantra.

Tony, you guys from Nutley were spoiled from running on a super smooth King. When we would cross the river, our cars were too heavy for your track, although I renember it was a lot harder getting through the glue there!

GO's track required a lot more weight so not to launch the straight. I still remember the sound when they hit the banking overhang.

Funny thing, I didn't have these problems at Buzzy's. Just had to remember to blip the bank on black!

Near where Fred and I grew up 169th St, Flushing, Queens. Glen Oaks was a great place, lots happening there. Fred and I hung out in our hood.

Jim Greenaway was such a cool character. He used to make me laugh my *** off.

it's a shame that almost no pictures remain of NY tracks from the "Golden Age" :o , unlike those in California.

Cheers

Even model car journal printed almost no photos of east coast chassis. Charlie Harris who did the reports never took any pictures. It's a shame the east coast was not documented in photos.

I still have many of the cars/chassis I raced back then. Usually copied from West Coast designs in the magazines. But of course I was just a Geek!! LOL
