I have a vintage (1998?) Wright Way tire truer (see attached photos).

The motor is a Yokomo but I can't see a number or model number.

My concern is finding the correct shunted motor brushes for this device. The brushes are getting fairly deep and I want to have a pair in reserve for when they need to be replaced.

Anyone know which are the correct replacement brushes?

Thanks!

Mark

It should take a standard RC motor brush.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Yea---any Yokomo motor brush will fit--and they don't need to be shunted.  I may have some in my rc stuff-- I'll check

Captain Obvious has to ask: have you tried contacting Les? His number is right there on the label.

Yeah. Seems that is a little dated.

Sorta like using that address book from high school to look up your ex. As always, ymmv.

I doubt Les bothered to stock them, now, or 20 years ago.

I'm guessing any older hobby shop has them lying around.

It wouldn't do any harm to contact Les & ask if he knows a source for the brushes. I did this once for a power supply fuse, which I then found locally.

Contact Fast Track Hobbies in Rocklin, Mark.  They stock motor brushes for R/C motors.  916-784-1722.  They also have three 1/24th scale tracks, so you can bring your stuff up when you pick them up.  :-)   If you'd rather have them shipped to you, call after 11:00 am or so, and ask for Dwight.

Thank you all for the help! As always, this community comes through with the expertise. I'm not an RC guy and didn't realize this motor is standard equipment in that world.

Sorry, but I'm not a seller of this nifty device. I bought this way back when I was (perish the thought) wing car racing! Then I raced flexi's. Then 4 1/2" JK's. Then 4 1/2" flexi's. Then I quit for a long stretch and this sat in a box. Now I'm racing all nature of things and this is quite handy to turn retro tires that have gotten too small into perfect tires for my new JK "A" chassis.

Again, thanks for the help!

I believe that Chicagoland has a tire truer that cuts two tires at the same time.  I would check that out.  (I saw a photo here on slotblog recently about this device.)  And the Hudy has the "diamond" wheel which may help speed things along.  I don't know since I have no experience with any Hudy equipment.

I do know that if I'm starting with new donuts I start tire trimming on my belt sander, medium grit belt.  I simply, using the Mark 1 eyeball, hack the donuts down to "pretty close".  Then these go on the Wright Way to take them down to racing size.  Using the belt sander really cuts down on the trimming time.
