Chuck has mentioned  this dyno before, before it was built.

IIRC, it was something he was having an engineer friend whip up for him.

I didn't get an impression it was for sale, but that may have changed.

Hi Gary,

Mike, you have a great memory!

That is accurate; it wasn't manufactured by any company. A guy who is responsible for engineering CNC servo motors wrote all the software, machined all the parts, and designed all the circuitry. I asked if he would be willing to produce more, but at this point he's not (likely because he significantly underquoted me, and spent an exorbitant amount of time engineering the hysteresis brake... which was initially going to be a mechanical friction-based design).

If all of the hard engineering work has already been done then why not capitalize on that?

It's true you would have to find someone to machine the parts (for example Mike Swiss has a good source) and make the PC boards but I suspect there would be a market for a limited production run.

Bet it costs more than a decent commercial raceway...

The Magtrol Micro Dyne (hysteresis brake version) is $27,000 - when I checked last year.

The company is, ironically, 15 minutes away from me.

For $27K, I am confident I could find a good Hawk Retro motor without a dyno.  ;)

Not me. I've looked at the Magtrol stuff before and had a good idea of what it would likely cost.
