OK, I gave the new O2 candy a try. I did it using the intercoat clear (4030) and it looked great, until it all peeled off. The clear did not bite into the plastic and hold. The clear did set up fast and acted as described.

Does anyone know if I can use the regular clear base (4004) they say to use with their colors with the O2 candy color instead?

I am looking for the info before I mix them up and find a reaction in my gun that leads to a real meltdown.

Thanks in advance.

I've used a variety of the Createx paints but never the Candy2O. They do mention that it has urethane resins, maybe that's why it doesn't stick to the plastic.

Any reason you are using this paint instead of one of the transparent colors from their standard line?

I was trying to get the effect of a real candy and have the pearl metallic show through. I will give it a try using the resin base or maybe using the resin base as an adhesion promotor.

I will report back when I know more.

I believe the paint you're using is designed to be used as external paint for airbrushing on things like graphics on surfaces that have been primed, such as a fuel tank on a bike or a mural... it doesn't have the properties to "bite" into the Lexan and adhere to it...

The best true candy paint I've found is Duplicolor Metalcast. It is a true lacquer that requires a gold/silver or white base. I use metallic silver base, the metalcast and Rustoleum Crystal Clear enamel for the clear coat. There is a red, blue, purple, and a gold, I think.

Looks great, Matt. I think that is on the outside of a hard body?

How does that work on a Lexan shell?

It's outside on a model body (Flintstone). Being lacquer, I doubt you could use it on a clear body. Of course, the base coats must be lacquer, too. You all know that you can't apply any lacquer over enamel, but you can do final coats with enamel.

The Rustoleum enamel is the best clear finish we have found for cars that get run pretty rough. It dries thoroughly in a two days or so.
