My local guy, who wound up with ex-Strombecker employee, Bob Von Stover's, old stuff, had a Speed & Sport "catalog" in the stash.

Here's a page from it.

I was totally removed from slot racing in the mid-to-late '70s, but despite not knowing any better, I was still kind of surprised to see Bill Steube involved this late in the game.

I believe Ron Granlee was working the distributorship out of his house at the time this catalog was printed. Note no street address.

It wasn't long after this Bill Stuebe gave up slot cars and picked-up gunsmithing/tuning.

Mike, was this catalog sheet printed on light yellow paper? I don't think i've kept any, but Ron Granlee was one of my mailorder sources for items I couldn't purchase locally during the early to mid-70's. Parma was another. :)  In an earlier thread on here, it was said that hand-wound Bob Green arms were Vulcans. This sheet indicates they were Green Giants, with the Vulcans being machine-wound.

No kidding, huh? I didn't know that's what Bill did after slots. He certainly had the shop for it. Kind of interesting.

The sheets are as you see them, in white.

That Vulcan reference was for arms wound a little earlier ('72-73?)

This is 1976 and the machine wound arms are referred to as Vulcan II.

Here is another reference to Vulcan arms being handwound, from John Havilcek's thread here.

Nice to have this confirmed, as I white-corrected the image when I compressed it to make it a bit more readable.

I still have two of these catalogs; they are both yellow.

Phil, I didn't keep my Speed & Sport sheets, but I recall some of them being yellow. :)

I bet what my guy has is one that was copied from an original.

Look how much crisper the car is on the bottom.

You are correct, Mike.

I worked for Xerox for years and copiers back then did not do solid coverage well at all. The bold letters and the photo have the hollowed out look that copiers produced, and color in the paper was lost or turned the sheet dirty gray.

I'm guessing the original Gp 15 was unbalanced arms.

Also, it's also called Gp 15, where when I got back into racing in late '81, it was known as International 15.

I guess it was a sales ploy.

Instead of "Outlaw-15." If it was illegal, it had to be faster.
