TSR, where are you ??
Here is something different and strange, but it has merit. I have never seen this before, maybe some of you have.
A chassis I picked up with a Champion motor.
Another view.
The front lead wire is grounded to the chassis.
The rear lead wire off of the motor tab is soldered to the chassis. This is how most electrical is on a full-size auto.
Any comments are welcome.
What the #%@^ is this about?

Hi Gene!
You better not look at my current D3 car, this is how it's done, albeit the solder joints are a tad cleaner...
The TSR cars and the old Cox SuperScale cars also use the chassis and motor can as ground as well as quite a few home-built modern cars with brass chassis, and it was not so uncommon in the 1960s either.
By the way, the motor looks like a Champion 507-R, a rather scarce mill...

TSR,
I never seen this done, and was shocked when the car arrived.
Many thanks for a fast reply. I will take the motor out, take a few photos and post them. The motor has a Champion sticker, but does not say the motor number, like 517. There is so much solder on the chassis I think you could get lead poisoning.
I plan to copy this chassis and put it under one of your very nice Retro Lotus bodies that I purchased.
Thanks again.

Gene,
The chassis looks like it could be an old Champion on which someone vomited solder all over. Best is to heat each joint, one by one, until it is melting and shake the solder off.
The 507-R had a variety of stickers. Check the Champion history I concocted a few years back HERE.
