The premier race of the Checkpoint weekend was Can-Am on BPR's super fast King track and this time we tried something a little different... a hand-out motor format using the newer JK Hawk Retro 7R7R motors.

Each racer was allowed to purchase a maximum of three motors and all things considered it really went off very well and with hardly a hitch! Everyone had their own method of break-in...

After I break in a motor in water I always drink the water, it makes me feel like we are united in some way...........  Also, as you get older, the extra fiber helps.

Congrats to Sam.

I'm real impressed with the simple body mounting setup Duran used on Sam's winning chassis.

It's sort of F1ish.

It obviously worked real well.

Each racer was allowed to purchase a maximum of three motors and all things considered it really went off very well and with hardly a hitch! Everyone had their own method of break-in...

Bryan,

I noticed Sam won with 341 laps.

From some of the "woe was the racers rhetoric" on FB, I assumed you guys must run 350+ laps, almost every race.

I checked the winning Can-Am lap totals, going back to the last Checkpoint Cup, and was really surprised.

Here are those totals.

340,340,330,341,342,341,338,332,342,349,335,334,345 (339.15 laps average - 2 less than handout total)

In 9 of the 13 races, you guys ran 341 laps, or less.

So with being able to stick whatever motor you wanted in the car, you guys only surpassed the handout total of 341 laps, 4 times, and twice, only by 1 lap.

You statement "it really went off very well", almost sounds like an understatement.

While interesting--- lap totals are even more about conditions than the motor. Weather and temperature have a LOT to do with how many laps we run.  But it does continue to illustrate that our little motors are not very consistent --- but we live with it because there is no better alternative! It is what it is!! I love the hand out format because it is the MOST FAIR from a motor perspective. It eliminates the need for "deep pockets" and the advantage that brings.

The conditions were very good---because even though the qualifying times were a little slower as a whole--they still ran a LOT of laps. It seems like the race and hand out format were well recieved and came off without a hitch. Great job SCRRA!!

We missed you!  Dennis' run, coming from the D Main to the A Main was remarkable! Damn near as good as Alex Freund last year coming from the D to win in F1!
