Robbie McAuliffe won concours.

Stockcars starting line.

For this race we did not qualify. Fastest lap of the race went to Charlie McCullough with a 3.679 second lap on black lane. Race format used was round robin with two minute heats.

Early on following the laps per heat averages showed that it was going to be a close race between Charlie, Doc, Doug, and Rick. This track is tricky and the race is won or lost in the braking and transition of the flat turn leading into the drivers panel. As the race progressed Doc and Rick separated from the pack slightly by racing clean and avoiding wrecks. In the end Rick Moore would go onto win his first ever retro stockcar race!

1) Rick Moore 242 Laps

2) Doc Dougherty 238

3) Charlie McCullough 235

4) Doug Demski 234

5) Grant Goerner 230

6) Randy Shearl  227

7) Terry Tawney 227

8) Mick Moock 226

9) Ray Lee 226

10) Robby McAuliffe 209 DNF

11) Ed Hoffman 170 DNF

Early on it was a pretty close race with nearly half the field contending for first place. As the heats wore on Jeff Bonanno's consistency added the extra laps he needed to take the win. This guy is good and has been a great competitor as of late. Brian, Doc, and Rick also had a solid race performance with Brian taking second place and Doc third.

IMSA

The final race of the day was the IMSA class. For those of you not familiar, this is a class GRRR started last year that allows either IRRA rules GT Coupe or Can-Am plus to compete in the same race much in the way full scale road racing occurs. One would think the no weight limit Can-Am plus would always out perform the Gt's, but this has not always been the case. The points are scored separately for each class of car. We do not qualify for this race. Lane choice is selected based on the previous Can-Am race finishing order.

Doc won concours.

We had a light field for this one. A number of the regular racers were attending the Rolex 24 in Daytona that was going on at the same time. This was a scheduling error on my part thinking that race was the following weekend. Despite this everyone but Tony had a good time and Brian would go on to take the win with a healthy lead. Rick and Doc would round out the podium spots both having a great day by running at the top in every race of the day!

IMSA Final Result

1) Brian Ambrose (GT) 288 Laps - Fast Lap 4.722 (Orange Lane)

2) Rick Moore (GT) 281

3) Doc Dougherty (GT) 275

4) Terry Tawney (GT) 271

5) Grant Goerner (CA+) 265

6) Don Mathison (GT) 262

7) Ray Lee (GT) 260

8) Tony P (GT) 30 DNF

That completes our first race of 2017, I would like to thank Ed and his wife once again for running a great raceway and providing a delicious lunch of pulled pork for everyone to enjoy. For more photos of the race please visit this link https://goo.gl/photo...VYDdXtGPeiK9h39

As noted in another thread the second race of the year at P1 raceway in a few weeks has been rescheduled to Saturday 2/25 to avoid conflicting with the Daytona 500. The class running order will be Can-Am, Formula One, and IMSA. I hope to see everyone there.

WHAT? Nobody caught on that I was running the TSR motor in 2 of the 3 races. I was pleasently surprised how well my very old TSR motors ran that day. These motors are from 2012 and 2013. Well, maybe nobody cares.

Yea, I ran one in stock cars and another one in GT Coupe. Both of them were really good race motors. The one in GT Coupe might have challenged Rick for 2nd place, but the motor last some of its top end half way through the race. Not bad for 4 year old motors.

I've always said that the TSR motor was the best of the FK style motors.  More consistent from motor to motor too.

Uh-oh.  Here come the lawyers again!!

They did have great brakes, my choice over falcons every time. I'd give up a few feet to be able to stop in the deadman. Lol.
