Can anyone tell me if this is an acronym for something or how the name ever came up for these 1/32 scale cars? Someone asked me and I didn't have an answer. So I figure this is the best place to ask.

Steve Koepp is a regular on Slotblog.

Maybe he'll know.

If not, I have steady contact with Bud Bartos (the inventor of the Flexi-kar). As an ex-Parma employee, he might also have some insight.

Marty Stanley posted the following description in this thread on Slotblog, back in 2010.

"The name "Womp-Womp" was derived from the sound the car makes when it strikes the wall during a race."

I'm pretty sure it is not an acronym.

The story is Ken MacDowell, owner of Parma, saw it in a CarToon mag. The words (womp womp) was in a bubble as a hot rod car drove away.

That is how he came up with the name for Womp-Womps and that is the truth.

I like the sound it makes when it hits the wall better.

Be it true or not. :D

Thanks, Steve, for clearing that up.

The "hitting the wall" theory didn't make any sense to me.

The implication is negative. It would be like selling a controller and calling it "The Torch."

So the story about Lake Womp Womp by Parma and naming after the Lake is bogus?

by the way everybody I'm   starting a kids Womp Racing group! Please talk it up and lets start one in every state using the AWRA rules for Legend cars. the only thing i changed in our track rules is the motor. They have 3 motor choices and there so different that we decided the 25,000 rpm motor from JK is perfect for the kids 5 to 12 years of age. Keep the rule simple. contact me for more info if you wish.
