Just got some Faskolor Candy Apple Red and I'm wondering what to back it up with.

I think the Faskolor chart recommends backing it with the Satin Silver.  How about white, or even black?

Anyway, I just wanted to check to see if anyone had found an interesting combo to back up the Faskolor.

Thanks!

Each backing will give a different result

Get some clear material like styrene sheet, and paint with your CA red.
Then mask and back with different colours.
Then choose the result you like best for what you're doing...

Mark, a neat way to test various backing colors is to airbrush the colors you want to test on a clear 2 liter soda bottle. Then spray your top coat color over each of them. They'll not dry shiny because you painted the outside of the bottle, but they will show how different backing colors affects the color of your top coat.

Generally, silver under candy colors will add a cool look, gold will add a warm look.

Experiment with all of them before shooting the body.

I like silver personally but white and black will provide different effects.

On transparent colors I like to use Createx Wicked Aluminum followed by a white undercoat. The aluminum is very "sparkly" compared to a regular silver, but the carrier is transparent so you need to back it with white.

Another effect I have used is a tiny touch of black fogging (I use Createx transparent black) before the candy red, and then backed with gold. Very rich-looking.
