Bruce, you are correct. Ron was a quadriplegic due to polio, I believe. He had limited use of his fingers, so his slot racing controls were a pair of micro switches. And he could drive a slot car rather well. The guy was just a marvel. Truly a unique and gifted person. Whether with slot cars, his business', his knowledge of real car racing. He loved the Indy car's, F-1 and Can-Am. We used to run a 4 or 6 hour enduro at "Speed and Sport" in early May,  using Indy type cars. The winning team[3 drivers] would get tickets to watch the Indy 500 on closed circuit big screen at Long Beach Arena or the auditorium, thanks to Ron. Myself, Earl Cambell and, I cannot recall the third driver, won one of these events. This would have been in the mid to late 60's. Yeah, he was a good guy.

What happened to speed and sport it was the premiere racetrack in the country all the best races and racers came out of their,it even feels like it's still open.
Buena Park seems to be in a similar style but much scaled down.

I left slot car racing in 1970 and Speed and Sport was still going. I'd go there now and again to say hi, but, other local tracks were closed or about to close; Atlantic Raceway, Don's Raceway, etc. It was a heck of a place, slot car tracks just went the way of the Do-Do bird. Glad BPR is here, so after 43+ years off, I'm back at it, sort of.
