OK, racers, at my last race with 36 GT Coupe cars up first, our practice time was open. Any lane, one lap to 25 laps. You know the drill.

At our F1 race we went to a timed practice. Get in a line on either side of the drivers panel then you start on red or black lane and have four lanes at 3 mins each to practice. If you leave to work on your car after you start, lets say two lanes, you need to get back in line to test. I will say in the open way, even guys with multiple cars don't hog the lanes.

So here is a poll to see what you all think. I am allowing comments so keep it clean.

Regards,

JJ

Three minutes with 10 second lane changes.

Two minutes 30 sec. lane change. But open practice works just fine. Also just take your controller off when you walk; if not don't whine if it has been removed because you left

When you have 36 racers timed practice is the best because you don't have someone camping out on orange all day. You start on black or red and if something is wrong with the car, go fix it then go to your next lane.

For smaller field races like the NERR open practice is fine but the track should always be set for 2 minutes so the lap times reset.

JJ,

Once again I told you I asked for 2 minutes on and 30 seconds off. Timed practice is necessary when we have that many racers especially for the second class of the day. Otherwise many would not get to get on the track or not on lanes to they want to test their cars.

Many times even with the timed practice, there are open lanes where you can jump in if you want.

John,

It depends on how many racers you have. On the practice days you can get by with untimed practice, on race days the timed practice works about the best.

With three classes in the ORS three minutes per lane works pretty good. Not having spent a lot of time racing Retro East I can tell you in OH and PS. there are known lane hogs. :)

So one way doesn't fit all.

Absolutely! The one unchangeable given in 1/24 commercial track slot racing in the US is that there are only eight lanes. No way around that fact.

As I said to my fellow IRRA® BoD members when we were first starting up, if Retro becomes popular the biggest problem we will have is processing the racers through the program fairly on race days and timed practice is an indication of that.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Joe,

I will follow whatever the rules are. A lot of guys were grumbling to me so I thought it would be interesting to get a feel for what they think. Quite a few spoke to me, even some A guys. But I guess they don't want to bitch to you.

I however don't have an issue with speaking my mind. LOL.

Which is what I do. I only need a few laps to know if it's good and dial in my controller.

Well, JJ, anyone that has been to a Premier race should be used to timed practice. We did not do it in the morning since people arrived at different times and there was not as much congestion getting on the track. We had to do it for the second class in order to give everyone an equal opportunity to get on. Notice that we don't even get the first race completely over with before guys are looming by the driver's panel to get on for the next class.

The next time someone gripes send them to me.

Will do, Noose. My opinion 2 mins on 30 would work fine as you said.

The guys complaining were the guys that needed to rework their cars and get back in line. I could see how that could be a pain.

Overall a 2 min time is very fair.

People need to learn that when you are waiting for in line to get on a lane you are suppose to be marshaling for the people on the track so when you are on the track you have marshals also.

That's fine but if there is five guys in line for black when would the guy marshaling get in line? Supposed a guy like me sees an open lane jumps on it then when time is off walks away..

JJ, there is a procedure.

Guy that marshals the deadman is the first guy on black. Guy that marshals the lead-on is the first guy on red. Jim at HVR went all through this a couple of weeks go when we were there.

If a lane is left open and that's all you want, go ahead and say, "Excuse me, I just want to get on that open lane."

My take on JJ:

Yo Yo, are any of you (bleeps) going on black?

Two nanoseconds go by...

No, OK, coming through, watch out, coming through.

(Hooks up on black)

Two seconds pass

Yo Yo, where's my car!!

Put it back on black.

:D

Love ya, JJ.

Cheers.
