Can-Am on the Aristocrat – 05/02/17

 

Can-Am returned to the Aristocrat for this week’s Tuesday night retro-race at MVH.  Eleven drivers went through tech. We were still one or two shy of being able to run all eight lanes, so we raced on just the middle six (which on the Aristocrat means there are still two gutter lanes on half the track as blue and orange go from the middle to the outside between crossovers!). 

 

11 Can-Am Cars in Tech:

 

John Weaver jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as he cruised to a 16-lap victory over second place, which is where the real racing was taking place.  Nick Ball, Dave Panich, Ray Lee and Ricky Pratt were all in contention for the other two steps on podium throughout most of the race. At the end of the last heat, Ricky squeaked past Ray to take 2^nd place by just 6 track sections.  Dave missed the podium by a little over a lap but was able to stay ahead of Nick who was less than a lap behind him in 5^th place.

 

Trailing the lead group by 4 laps, Richard Payne led the rest of an evenly spread-out field. Rich Girvin and Dan Savage had the closest race in this group with Dan finishing 2 laps up on Rich to claim 7^th place.  Dick Griffin was some 8 laps back with Doug Uhlman giving chase while Tom Smith struggled for most of the evening with handling issues to finish out the field.
