Terry Erisman asked me if I would paint and build a Fly Lola T70 for him.
I had never built or painted a Fly car before so of course I said yes!

My opinion of these little scale models is that the proportions, fit, and finish are very good! The only drawback is their choice of material. Most of the styrene used for molding has too much rubber in it for a good finish. Even though I sanded the mold lines off and carefully primed the body smooth... once the base color was applied, all the mold lines popped back. This is generally because the solvents in the paint bite down into the styrene and leave a shadow of everything sanded in the paint. A very minor point but something to keep in mind the next time I paint one of these. I think then NEXT TIME I will choose to use acrylic paints like Tamiya or Faskolor. Oh well... live and learn.

After the door lines were drawn in with a technical pen and India ink, about six coats of Tamiya clear were laid down with one wet sanding between the 4th and 5th coats of clear.
Other than that fact, the kit is very well molded and all parts fit beautifully. No problems other than the fact that the locator pins are very long... ostensibly so the factory can use a hot iron to mush them down instead of using glue for quick assembly. Because of this fact, a few of the pins have to be carefully shortened to leave room for the rest of the parts...

The hardest part of this build was probably fitting the glass. One side window has to be inserted beyond the frame so that the other side window glass can be inserted and then the assembly slid back to center. The the front window is pressed into the opening and the interior installed. Also... remember to install the interior BEFORE the engine plate or you are going to have to do some grinding...
(Directions? We don't need no stinking directions...)

Normally, I don't venture into the bitty-scale forum, but when I saw a post by Jairus, I had to check it out.

As usual... VERY nice, Jairus!

Sweet Lola, Jairus. ;)

Does it mean there will be some more hard body 1/24 cars coming up on the menu? :laugh2: :laugh2:

I have to say the people I race with down here in San Diego are getting hot about Trans-Am cars. ;)

Hope you will be interested in the trend? :thank_you2:

Gorgeous! Ya gotta love the wee ones and I appreciate how much work even smaller means!

Very nice, Jairus!

Those Fast Kits are a lot of fun to build, but the window installation leaves a lot to be desired.

I think I broke 2 or 3 windows before I got it right.
