Is there going to be a non cut down version of this guide?

Cheers

There is a cut down nut. A Dremel tool or a mill if you have one

To be honest, if I was Gugu, with the high price of injection molding tooling, I'm not sure if I would do a non-cutdown one.

Racers can always add guide washers.

I wonder if it's possible that we have not heard the last on guide shoe improvements.

Now that we have new tech guides how about new guide washers.  Most guide washers are usually ..009-010 in brass/bronze/steel and either .003 or .010 in Teflon.  Wouldn't it be nice to have a size selection in guide washers something like .003, .005, .007 along with the .009/.010.  Since we run the front of the chassis so close to the track it would be nice to be able to fine adjust the clearance.

Agreed.

But for that to happen, I think we need to figure out exactly why the new RF guide is faster.

I know it's something that one slot racing luminary is bound and determined to try to figure out, and says he is going to make a pretty serious effort at it, this weekend.

I agree.

We can use some thinner guide washers, especially in metal, or at least something less flimsy than teflon.

I believe it's faster because it's harder. Less resistance, less drag.

Pat,

So even harder than the old Red Fox?

On one of the tests, the racer's assertion it was a .1 faster, the existing flag on his car, was the old Red Fox.

Blade is wider and tapered towards top. It also changes the dynamics I am sure from guide tongue hole to leading edge of flag, making a longer guide lead with out changing the front axle to guide center measurement. How that makes a car faster. It's still magic.

I was handed a new guide at the D2 Nats and the blade was the same thickness at the top and bottom, unlike the Parma, Cahoza and the old style RedFox guides I had on my cars. They all taper approx. .012., from .072 to .084, the new guide is the same on top and bottom.

The blade and post are the same length and distance from post on both the old and new RF, but the braid is .12 further forward on the new guide.

I believe the material is harder on the new guide, as it took longer to face sand the braid surface.

My observations FWIW.

As far as the harder material theory, I told a few of people trying to figure out, what's up, to add scotch tape to the side, to see if lap times go back up.

As far as taper, I thought the Parma wasn't.

Not at the raceway, but by memory, it doesn't appear to be.

I checked again no taper on RF. My eyes are getting old.

If the secret was no taper, how come when people went to tapered flags, everyone didn't say "These suck". Lol

Two of these guide broke in the same crash today in the finger of BPR's King Track.  I hadn't seen that before.

Thanks for the feedback.

Even though the crash happened right in front of me, I didn't see the piece up close.  There were several pieces.  Whether it was just the flags or other parts like loose guide washers, I can't say.

It will be interesting to see if it will more of a Gerding track phenomena.

With the old style, it was a regular occurrence on the local hi-speed Gerding King, but a rarity on my medium speed one.
(about .4-.5 slower)

I remember drilling through the center of the post and inserting a piece of .063 piano wire when guide posts were snapping off. Possibly a fix for the moment?

I was working on the pinning before I left on vacation.

After hearing of the 2 posts breaking at BP, this Saturday, I'm going to go ahead and announce it and start to take orders.

Pinned with .039" wire, from the top of the post, to the bottom of the blade, I'm only adding $1.00 to the price.

Unthreaded - $6.50
Threaded - $7.00

6 pc. minimum on orders for guide flags only.(can be a combination of pinned and unpinned)

Smaller quantities can be ordered with orders that have other items on it.

Don't drill through the bottom. Make a blind hole. This info from a man who did that.

I don't have to go all the way through.

I did that to confirm the pin was in the approx. middle of the blade.
