There were several season podium finishing positions up or grabs going into the final race of the 2016/2017 OCC Season. And for those unfamiliar with the track, which included most of the OCC racers, this was one difficult track to try to tame. Many of us didn't. We started the action with a temporary power outage to the area. Fortunately, the power company got it restored pretty quickly.
Open the racing action was the GT1-B group. Brandon Barricello showed what Friday practice could do for a racer by winning his 2nd OCC event of the year. Ron Culp had a rough start to the race in the gutter lanes but fought hard and took 2nd place. Lester Lucas ran a steady race to grab the final podium position. Jeff Henes's 4th place is making the season's GT1-B championship interesting as Brandon may have caught him for the championship. I'll total the points on Monday to see where everyone finished.
Greg and Denny showed home track experience is nothing to sneeze at as they took the top two positions in GT1-A. Eric Shirey ran a very od total to capture 3rd.
Group 10 had Greg Mayer taking his second win of the day and he was again followed by Denny Krivacek in 2nd. Eric took 3rd, a few laps back. For the season championship, Ron Vincek had a 7 point lead going into the race over Justin Porter who topped Ron by 2 positions. This will be another championship which will need to be decided when all of the points are tabulated.
int he GTP rce, it was the Mayer show as he showed the way by a big margin. Jim Verga and Eric had a good battle until the end with Jim besting Eric by sections. Dan Ebert and Dave Decoster had a close run themselves with Dan getting the edge with a 2 lap separation.

I'd like to thank Ron Culp and Greg Mayer for hosting us. This was far and away the most difficult track for us to run. It is like a 1/24th version of an HO track, running the original AFX cars without traction magnets. This writer will definitely have to get up there before the next race to put a few more laps on the track.
