Yes, we are going to race slot cars in the northwest in 2017.  But almost EVERYTHING will be different.  For example:

1.  We are not going to exclusively race retro.  Mike has decided that he wants to just race flexi cars on his track.  He can give more details, but it has to do with more fun for less money and less reliance on builders.

2.  We have new tracks -- Bob G. has a track is Missoula that we have committed to have a race on, and we will include this in the summer schedule.  Leroy has a great new track in Palouse that he wants to race both flexis and retros on.  Dave Cuellar has a 1/32 track that he would like us all to try.

3.  Ken still wants to race retros, but wants to host fewer races.

SO...This will be Northwest Retro Racing and More this year...

Our first goal is to have everyone who wants to host a race have one Saturday that is exclusively theirs.  So we will have FIVE Pre-planned Saturday races, on the third Saturday of the month from June through October.  That means the races will be:

  • June 17
  • July 15
  • Aug 19
  • Sep 16 and
  • Oct 21

Bob will get first choice as to which of these 5 dates he wants to host a race.  I will go to Montana ahead of the race and help him get set up.  Perhaps others would like to come early as well.

Leroy and Dave will get second and third choice, to decide between them.

Ken will have fourth choice.

Mike will take the remaining date.

After those dates are decided, Mike will schedule other dates, either Saturdays or weeknights, for additional flexi races.

Once race dates are decided, each track owner will decide the classes he wants to race.  We are trying to limit the total number of classes, and have these suggestions.  Choose from:

  • 3 JK based flexi classes -- LMP/GTP, Stock/Trans Am, or F1/Indy.  Hawk 7 motors, Cheetah 21 chassis on LMP/GTP, more details later.
  • 2-3 formula classes -- Can Am and Formula for sure, maybe stocker
  • 1-2 1:32 classes

AFTER we decide and publish what will race on these dates, Mike will schedule more flexi races for his track, either on additional Saturdays or weeknights.

The meeting where we decided this included Mike N, Ken, Tom, and Fred.  We have also heard interest from Aaron, Kent, Bob, Leroy, Dave C, and Jack.  Hope to hear from Paul, Dave Z, John W., Momo, and others.

Randy revealed he will not be traveling here to race, but we hope to get him to the Missoula race.

I will update this as each race date is filled in.

Happy racing all!

Ken

Great to see that a season is shaping up!  I have written down dates on my calendar and will wait for all the details to follow.

I've heard back from Bob in Montana.  He wants to host the July 15 race.

As they say on NFL draft day, "Leroy and Dave, you are now on the clock!"

Does Bob in Montana have a link to his track?

OK Leroy will take Aug 19th and I will take Sept. 16th. Also if you do not have any 1/32 cars we have many to loan, my race will be GT and LMP and maybe American muscle. We will bring some cars to the earlier races so you can see what we race. You will be surprised how fast they really are !

OK so I just realized that Sept 16 is Palouse days and our local slot car club ( Slot car junkies of the Palouse ) will have Leroy's slot car track open for the promotion of slot car racing and we will be working to help people get interested in racing slot cars. So what will be a better day before or after the 16'th to race at my house?

           Thanks!   Dave.

OK I talked with a few guys and Sept. 23rd seems to be a winner. So hope to see all the guys then.

Sorry, I'm not going to make the race on the 19th. Simply too far, as it is an 11 hour round trip not even counting the racing. Just so busy w/my business & the kids I can't devote an entire day to racing at this time.

Had fun with the guys this past weekend though! Bob & i will try & tinker w/the track a bit more to work a couple of the minor bugs out of it.

Just a reminder that Saturday the 19th is race day at Leroy's in Palouse . Retro racing at it's best and an additional race on the figure 8 track for those who want to join the fun! Hope to see all the guys there.

Dave
