There's a number of reasons I've just been giving this some thought but, are any of the raceways savvy enough to put together like a ListServe mailing list to keep racers up to date on what is happening at their track or racing series, etc.? Maybe sent out like a week or 2 in advance if a race is coming up?

I just think it would be kind of nice to get a notice of a race(s) coming up rather than have to go scrounging around looking for what is coming up/

And I don't do FacePlant. I don't need to be 'friends' with anyone ('The kids spent the whole day at the pool!' 'Don't care!) or have to go browsing through different pages. Just… let me know!

So there.

Kenny had everyone's number and would call you and tell you he was having a race.

Hey Fox! A lot of great synth/pop came out of those years! And I still listen to it!

So… So… There!

<<An actual mailing of paper in a stamped envelope has gone the way of the cassette tape.>>

A ListServe refers to emailing, not physically mailing anything although I do remember the days of getting flyers through the mail. And BTW, not only has vinyl been making a comeback, there are a few companies producing cassettes again for various reasons/companies and doing brisk business.

Wait a minute! Maybe it IS the 80's again!

Doot doot!

Going back to the seventies (oh my, ancient history) I was in a car club which publicized our autocrosses by mailing flyers to past participants. There was a science to sending out these flyers which had been developed over time. If you mail too early people will forget, mail too late and people have already made plans. We found the time frame varied with the type of participant; autocross drivers wouldn’t set their plans three weeks ahead (is the car finished? maybe), A list rally teams needed a minimum of five weeks to plan (airline tickets needed to be purchased 28 days prior for full discount).

I’m not sure how it would work for other people but I would like an email notification for local raceways holding non series races on weekends.

Bob, in your ancient history, do you recall getting flyers for some of the C&C races? I seem to recall a few & those from E. Hartford too. :)  Today, I've gotten electronic invites to races via Facebook. Those haven't always been in my backyard.

ListServe....UseNet... those are the parts of the internet few know about. For some the 'net is only email and websites. Little do they know what's available on the 'net.

Have always felt that raceway owners have almost never leveraged email properly, in almost every case.

Ever tried to buy anything from Radio Shack without surrendering your mailing address? And the company did utilize the info, though as recent results indicate, it didn't do them a lot of good, although that's probably not very much their fault.

If I was crazy enough to run a raceway, I'd leverage email addresses as much as I could to stay in constant contact with my customers, to promote/celebrate/publicize the racers who did well and consistently came to play and to let people know what was going on in the near and medium-term future, new products, etc., etc.

We did that with SERRA as much as we could, but, honestly, it didn't generate a high level of good results,

I resented Radio Shack for this kind of requirement to sell me product. it's a "FN" store! I never had to divulge info to any other store like that. There are others that were better anyways. RS was merely convenient until they shut the local store down in the early 90s. By the time they reopened a store nearby RS became a reseller of USB cables and smartphone protectors. RS died when Mr. Tandy died. Emails and web usage couldn't save them. It was serial incompetence that killed them.

This is the place to post upcoming events. Any serious racer will check here for major races, in addition to much

coverage of local weekly races. As to attracting new racers, that really has to be up to the local track owner. A

listing in the events section of the local paper may serve that purpose. Make sure that it says that spectators are

welcome. To get them involved, you have to let them see what it is all about.

I am not receptive to being bombarded with ads or e-mails about events I can find listed here. I want to choose

the events I need info on. Incidently, stores that try to get my e-mail find that I will refuse the purchase before

giving that info. In every case, they sell me the item without it.

I agree Dave.  I absolutely refuse to give out my e-mail address to anyone/thing that doesn't have a legitimate need to know.  Guard it almost as tightly as my S.S.#.

Ditto... but I know people who get a "trash" email address, mostly at gmail, and use it to sign up to non-critical accounts. All the spam goes there and nothing important is transmitted or received there either.
