Hi!

So I've cleaned up the Ackermann steering .

I still can't get the wheels to turn even after cleaning them up!

I've got them soaking in Zep penetrating oil... I have hopes that'll work

I'd like to take the "C" clips off, but the thing is just plastic and I'm afraid of breaking them!

Any tips on careful removal??

Thanks,

Ted

Pablo told me the trick of using acid to loosen stuck parts. Of course follow with a thorough rinsing.

What kind of acid ?

I have muriatic acid hanging around.

I've tried ZEP penetrating oil and good old PB6.

I can get the rims to rotate on the spindle, but only with great difficulty !

Thanks, Ted

You could try WD-40.

Let it sit for a minute or two in a little container of very hot tap water. Then, while it's still hot try to spin the wheel for a bit. Then repeat the process a couple times and see if it gets looser. May help to flush out the axle area. If it works I would then go to WD as Bill said.

Honestly, I would leave it alone. If you break the stub axle you won't find another and the setup would be ruined.

Clean the wheel with a small fine wire brush and paint it with some Testors Metalizer.
