I've got a couple of mysteries .....

One is this slim motor chassis .

And the other is this new brass swing arm chassis that fits a 26D motor and is marked JAPAN ?

Any guesses ?

THANKS !! Ted

Hi...the chassis is made by AYK, and is virtually identical to the Champion (IIRC it was named the "Scuttler"?) chassis.

Maybe someone else will chime in here if I got the name wrong?

The motor looks like maybe a Strombecker clone / variant of a Pittman type.

The chassis never had any other name than a stock number at Champion, which is # 270 for the smaller FT16 ("16D") motor, and # 271 for the fatter FT26 ("26D") motor.

The motor is a Japanese built motor marketed in the USA by Aristo-Craft, the Polk's family brand in New York.

So I did some more snooping around about this AYK chassis and I found these !

This chassis here is a thinner one for maybe FI, doesn't have outboard arms for a bigger body.

I found these pix with the chassis mounted to this RTR Champion car  ! Cool and only $9.95 !!!

Ted, the chassis on this Champion RTR car is exactly the same as the one shown in the clear-plastic bag in the opening post. These chassis were later ofered in several combinations offering side body mounts for wider bodies, "ISO" conversions etc. The 1968 catalog shows several of these, plus Champion issued a number of kits and RTR sports cars with such modified chassis. All the chassis were built in Japan.
