Brazing rod works well, easy to bend and solder added bonus of the mentioned improvement over brass.

Had started putting one of these under one of Gene's cool Small Dart Thingies. Luckily the chassis is straight, just needs the weird guide holder improved.

Look forward to seeing the improved Pablo version :D

Original bracket, cross pan connector, drop arm weight, front axle, and flag holder.

Bob, I doubt Pablo knows Dick P like we know Dick P.   :laugh2: Blueprinted flexis don't seem to circulate like other chassis  Should we let Pablo know the "P" doesn't stand for Pablo? I first met Dick in 1969 or 70.

I apologize for the obscure reference. As Bill noted Dick P was a racer in the Northeast. Dick would repair/rebuild a Group 12 brass and wire chassis for many racers. I would send him a mass produced chassis of questionable alignment with cold solder joints and he would send back a straight polished jewel.

 

Your rebuild of the AYK reminded me of the way Dick could turn the bits of chassis parts into a race or concours winner.

 

Very nice chassis, I wish my car from the 60's had been half as nice.

Bob, Dick still races slot cars competitively. He participates in the NECC series. Once the brass kar chassis became obsolete, he graduated to blueprinting flexis.& has done so ever since. During the '97 USRA Nats, Dick was building Gunther Faas aluminum I-15 kits. I've seen a handful of Dick P built wire chassis being sold on eBay the past 5 years.

Buzco Rear Wheelies at 13/16" give about .032" clearance

Slick 7 O-Rings make the front clear about .032".

Steel retainer circlip secures the Dynamic flag.

The drop arm rods act as flag stops

If the 45 year old Buzco rubber doesn't grip, backup plan is 5/8" wide Mila Miglia wheels with orange donuts.

Havlicek arm is a real beauty :D  .590" OD, 65T of 30 and a little timing

Arm was easy to space and perfectly center. Shimmed Arcos (.610" hole) secured with one clip and CA.

EB mounting holes on the can were countersunk to allow the attachment screws to sit flush

She started instantly, nice and smooth, draws .65 amps at 3 volts, runs very cool, revs real nice.

A perfect 26D powerplant :good:

Pablo, this build thread brings back some crazy fun memories. At our local MD raceway way-back-when the rules for sports car bodies didn’t allow body flaring (yet), so to get the full 3-inch allowed width most of us ran open-wheeled for that time, and snagging up these Champion frames/cars (a “Harrison” Indy body, if memory serves me right) as fast as they hit the counter stock. I think they came with 607’s, but I recall many other armatures getting put in them (26-D triple winds, hoo boy!). Immediately, or at least within the first few laps, we were all soldering on bracing wires of all conception, questionable and otherwise, to keep these things somewhat straight, and able to survive the Wednesday and Saturday night races. In rather short order suffice it to say every one of them got “rebuilt” much as you’re doing here, albeit with much greater expediency and not surprisingly a much more ham-fisted approach to construction. Still cracks me up to this day just thinking about it…

 

Always a joy to watch your builds, thanks, and, need I say it, keep having fun!

John H, the shaft needed to be a mile long due to the AYK bracket :laugh2:

 

I changed from 8/32 Wilson's to a 7/28 Wilson's and still needed to cut the body to make it clear.

She passes the drivetrain test with flying colors

Bandit is done and ready to track test.

The silver braid wasn't making me happy so I used Prime.

The Wilson's gear seems to mesh OK but it is rather noisy despite a heat treating break in.

So I'll bring a dyed Parma Pink and a Cox to swap out just in case.

Also made a set of 5/8" wheels with fresh donuts in case I need more grip and/or the 45 yr. old Buzco rubber sucks
