Johnny Mauro's 1948 Pikes peak contender, almost there, thanks to Michael at Indycals. This car was also raced at Indy, post war up untill about 1950.

I'll get better photo's if I go outside and find some gravel, and dust. I did add a little dust to the rear of the car, just to give it thet Piles Peak look, pitty the climb is now paved, so that the tourists can drive there two wheel drive SUV's to the top.

I've got some cross-cut tyres on the way from Marlon Folks. (Shadowfax Slot Cars) This was also the car that ran in the 1948 Indy and came in 8th, not bad for a 9 year old car.

Chris,
Like all your builds, a real work of art.

I happened to drive up Pike's Peak last Monday.

As far as your paving comment, that's not why Pike's Peak got completely paved.

My wife's dad took her family up to the top, about 55 years ago, in a Plymouth wagon.

The real reason it got completely paved was an environmental dispute.

That's what gave Michael at Indycals the reason to do the decals.

I was buisy building my 308, wondering where to get decals from, so I posted a pix of work in progress.

Anyway it was May 27th, the day before the race. Michael was wondering about the oval, when he happened apon the museum (as he goes there every year to see the race).

He was aware that I was building a Alfa Romeo, and there he was standing in front of number 33 in all it's renovated glory.

So while he was goggling at it he whipped out the old cell phone and texted me, "do ya need decals for the Alfa 308 that ran at Indy cause I'll standing in front of it now".

I was greatly suprised, and replied "HELL YEAH"

So he did.....
