For the first time in almost a decade, we have a retro track in Missoula MT, and an owner (Bob Gugisburg) who wants to host a race. Now the question is who wants to go.

The race will be July 15. Normal 4 retro classes. I will offer to drive. Originally planned to go over on Friday, but decided not to. Can meet Palouse guys along the way if that works.

It is a short challenging track. Think Mikes with shorter straights.

It will be a long but fun day. Who's in?

Is this a new track?

Not listed in commercial or club directory.

What guide depth, gearing for Can-Am, F-1 and rear tires work on that track? 8 lane? Dang, I was just up in that area 3 weeks ago fishing. Any future dates coming up? I'm gearing up for the Summer Classic at BPR at the end of July.

Well, we are having trouble getting a quorum for the race in MT.  Dave Cuellar and I are going.  Bob is hosting the race.  Will hear about Leroy on Thursday, but Tom can't go (on call) and Mike Nelson can't (travel).  Have not heard from anyone else in Spokane.  Asked Bob to contact Randy in MT.  Will still plan to go, but if it turns out to be only 3 of us, we will look to reschedule.

Details for Tom Eatherly --

This is a routed, 4-lane track, so normal guides work.  I think the braid depth is about .1 to .2.  We use spray glue on the track, so most any retro tires work.  In general, the track is short for 1:24 scale, so my thought is that too much bite is worse than too little, so the cars don't get too tippy.  We have only practiced on the track, never raced, so not sure the best gear ratio.  My default is always to start at 8:28 and go from there.

Here is a picture of the track just after we set it up.  It is in the back room of an auto repair shop in Missoula.

Ken,

Thanks. That is a tight flat track! That looks like some concentrated fun right there. Post the re-schedule when you know.

Thanks again.
