Too many rules!

I was planning to prepare a car for this year's event but after reading these restrictions I have decided against it.

Also hard to properly prep a car without knowing more about the track and its power supply.

Just a couple of questions

     1968 AND EARLIER CLASS

 a, FK motor product number = ?
 b. HAWK motor product number = ?
c, "chassis must be brass," can period Dynamic chassis components be used within the brass chassis construction along with steel piano wire?

      UNLIMITED CLASS

 a. Driver cars required? (visible paper driver & interior ?)
b,  "chassis must be brass", CAN period Dynamic chassis components be used within the brass chassis construction along with steel piano wire?

Downriver Speedway & Hobby Shop is a very clean and friendly place to race. Tracks are well maintained.
I really had a great time last year.

Obviously, I reposted this info for Slotblog member Eliot Erlandson, who promotes this event, I believe.

I have sent him a link to this thread and hopefully he'll address your questions, Gene.

I communicated with Eliot a day or so ago and he said he's got some corrections to make to the info, so there should be some amendments coming soon.

Heard from Eliot and he sent me revised images for the IP in this thread, which I have installed.

Gene, he indicated that he'll come to this thread later today and address your questions.

After talking to Gene at length I am reconsidering but need to see what will be the final rules set.

How will it be determined what is "period correct"?

I have discussed the rules with Eliot for the last couple months. He has a good handle on the rule set and I trust him.

Last year's event went well and this years will be even bigger and better.

In a way, Bob. He is welcoming any former proxy race cars to be either run or display only. Provided the body is one of Larry Shinoda's designs and fits the rules.

Just one race at the one track with lots of pictures taken.

How can you have a "Shinoda Reunion" yet not allow Shinoda bodies?

"No original Shinoda bodies are allowed to be raced"

"Any original Shinoda body design is allowed"

So it must be a "Shinoda design", but it cannot be a genuine Shinoda :o

Good luck defining "Period correct motor" :shok:

Etc.

Eliot does not want to destroy vintage bodies Paul.  How is that hard to understand?
They can be on display and will be very much welcomed... but racing them.... would be nuts.

As for period correct motor.... you should be able to understand the meaning there for a smart guy like you.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply.  I apologize if the rules are a tad hard to understand.  It's my first time with putting a rules set together, and I'm  just trying to make it so we don't have people showing up with brand new chassis, etc.... (Parma, JK, etc... modern flexi stuff) and thinking that will get in. I will start to address questions now, but I may have to come back in the evening as today is a busy one for me.

To answer Gene's questions

    1968 AND EARLIER CLASS

 a, FK motor product number = ?
 b. HAWK motor product number = ?
c, "chassis must be brass," can period Dynamic chassis components be used within the brass chassis construction along with steel piano wire?

The '68 and earlier is for period correct motors, so Dyna Rewinds, early Muras, etc... they can be gone through if that's wanted, but the goal is to make the motors look period correct, so the FK and Hawk will not be legal there.

As for the chassis being brass, I more so meant that about the pans. I can't really think of an aluminum pan car from that time period, but if someone wants to prove me wrong, I welcome it, as I'm still learning about the time period. Dynamic chassis components, steel piano wire, all that stuff is acceptable and encouraged! I also encourage pre-built chassis that are old school. Basically if it was legal in the thingie proxy races, it's legal here.

      UNLIMITED CLASS

 a. Driver cars required? (visible paper driver & interior ?)

Driver card can either be paper or plastic, if its an exposed cockpit than the drivers head just has to be visible

b,  "chassis must be brass", CAN period Dynamic chassis components be used within the brass chassis construction along with steel piano wire?

Absolutely that is allowed, and encouraged again. This class is really to allow the guys who race Retro Can-Am, etc... the ability to just swap a body over on their car and go out and have a fun evening of racing. At the same time, it also allows people to get creative, but this is where the Retro Hawk and FK motors come into play.  When I am at the track on Tuesday, I will get the parts numbersfor you. It's also so we can race longer heats without worrying about damaging a valuable motor.

To answer maximo's question:
How will it be determined what is "period correct"?

I would prefer to see pictures of the chassis in advance (either here, or on Facebook, or via email, doesn't matter to me) to avoid confusion. I personally am not a super stickler, so if you don't have the correct time period guide flag, etc... I'm not going to chew you out, it's more so looking for the right motor, and something that you could see having been raced back in the '66-68 time period when the Shinoda was a big deal.

Anyway I will be back in the evening to answer the rest of the questions, etc... I apologize again for the rules being confusing.

As Jairus said, it's the original bodies that we do not want racing. The repro bodies are what we want racing, since there are so few originals left, and those all should be preserved. It's a different thing entirely though if you want to swap bodies on an original Shinoda chassis and run that!

Eliot,

I messed up on the motor question FK and Hawk Retro.

Somehow I posted the questions under 1968 and earlier class and should have been under the Unlimited class.
Thanks,

To clarify, vintage motors are any 16D, 26D, 36D or padlock (open can) motor prior to 1967-'68.

No C or B can motors allowed.
No Deathstar, Pro Slot, FK, or Strap motor allowed.

Rewinds are okay if the can and magnets are from that early period.

Am I right, E?
