... and came home with this.

1 each - #1603M Motor Mount   $2.00

4 each - #1691 Tube 1/8' x 5"     $ .10

1 each - #1692 Tube 5/32" x 2"   $ .10

2 each - #1604E Frame Section  $ .50

1 each - #1604F Guide Plate       $ .35

That's $3.85, came home with $ 0.15 change.

Have to save up and go back for a motor because I'm going to build me a dragster someday. :D

I guess they don't have a website :)

Red,

The old man still has the original price sheet, he said "I'll hold the line on those. They haven't been selling well". ^_^

Bill,

No website but these parts were stored in the cloud.

Dust that was.... :heat:

How old is that photo?
Who's the 2 dudes on the far left? Must be investigating the fire from the night before, since the fire hoses are still hooked up. Maybe there just pumping out the basement.
I like the the awnings and the spirit water in the window.
Nice photo,

Now where did the parts come from?, I have Kemtrom motors.

I'm thinking they are pumping concrete down in the subway.

I don't know where that store is but the parts were here in a Plano box. Bought a bunch of kits off ebay 15 or so years ago and opened evey bag and put the loose kit parts in the divided box. Used a bunch of it over the years.

When I found the picture I took a 'trip' into that hobby store and it was great. I go back in every time I see it.

Reminds me of some hobby store in Brooklyn that my uncle took me to and left with a big honkin' Monogram Ford kit. I tried to build it as fast as 7 year old could, not the patient way.

===========

This car will get a NOS 4 volt Kemtron-KTM.

Was thinking straight up rail job but might have found the right body for it.... stay tuned.

Let me look around the shop and see what I have in the Kemtron selection.
An old ancient creaky wood floor musty hobby shop with a Jiffy Pop hanging on the wall for a fire alarm had the best selection.
Ah! The good old days.

Mom said "be home before dark" and the old man was having a hard time finding that motor bracket.

I said "maybe because it's a Lost-wax casting"

He sternly looked over those funny flat top glasses and said "don't be a wiseass kid, I'll find it"

Going back soon to get that motor.

Hi Bob,

I thought Slotblogger's might like to see a Kemtron motor parts pack along with your stash of treasures:

You guys could write (should write) a book. I remember a shop like that, but just a bit bigger. It was called Trost's Hobbies around 63rd and Kedzie. What a place that dreams were made of!

Madison Hardware, un-official home for Lionel Trains.    I don't know, but from what I have read, there was nothing there but train parts.   The whole store was bought, packed up in semis and delivered to one of the guys that bought Lionel.   I think there were several different owners the last few years.

The parts are real, the story is an 'imaginative' tour using a 'stock' store photo that reminded me of old Hoboken.

Looked like a great place to find a trove of Kemtron goodies.

There is real history in Madison Hardware.:

I remember Trost's. They were a supplier to some of the local Chicago metro hobby shops, of which there were many

in the '50s and '60s. All Nation was another of my favorites, but my home town had a really good hobby shop, so I only

ventured into Chicago occasionally, just to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything. No one bought from mail order

until the '70s, there was no need. But when the mail order houses started deeply discounting their stock, they started

stealing sales from the local brick-and-mortar stores. My local hobby shop had all the Kemtron parts in about twenty

large bin boxes, all catagorized by catalog number, no matter if they were for trains, cars, aircraft or what. You looked

up what you wanted in a counter copy of the Kemtron catalogue, then went to the appropriate bin to find what you

needed.

That's kind of the intent of this thread ... to bring out fond memories of places like Trost's.

And... a expect a car build up with the chassis parts in the first post.

I used the Kemtron lost wax cast brackets on a couple of chassis. The problem with them is that there was no separate oilite

axle bushings, and not enough meat to drill out the casting for separate oilites. One chassis I changed to a bracket I made

from strip brass shortly after I built it. I have restored that car. The other chassis I just abandoned, but I still have it and I might

restore it someday.

Trost had a slot track on the (?) third floor of the 63rd st store in the 1960s.  Scaled down to one slot car showcase on one floor in the 1990s.
