Seems I've been bitten by the building bug so I thought I'd see if I can get my thingie done.

Here is what I have so far.

I just "discovered" a solution to a problem I have.  Thanks!  Your use of flat/square material over round stock is inspiring.  Gonna use them in future builds for sure.  Looking like another nice build, keepem commin!

Thank you, this is actually square brass rod that you can buy from your raceway. If they can't get any you can find it at McMaster-Carr. If i remember correctly thats where i bought mine years ago.

Thank you! I used to build and race them back in the late sixties at Speed & Sport. Still enjoy building them today!

Love your builds Miko, Very creative.

I think the use of scales is an interesting way to evaluate the way a slot car handles.  Do you think you can remeasure the weight with the guide on one scale and the rear wheels with the chassis level. This way it will take into account guide lead. I am thinking the front wheels do not have as much do with handling as the weight on the guide and its distance from the rear wheels.

I plan to get a set of scales myself to better understand what makes a good handling slot car. Where did you get yours and what do they cost? Thanks

I think it is also important to weigh the rear wheels independently, so a 3-scale setup might be optimum, using cheapo scales from Amazon or Harbor Freight. I built something in an attempt to keep the rear wheel weights as close as possible, but then I got lazy and didn't use it much. Plus anglewinders in general don't give you much latitude as far as motor placement. Inline/retro is another story, I should start using the fixture again. You can also add a "wind tunnel" and view the downforce changes created by different bodies.

I do weigh the car at the guide and the rear wheels as i did in this picture. I try to balance them at about 60/40%.

60% on the rear wheels 40% on the guide. I've had good results with the handling that way.

IMG_1354.jpg

I believe i bought them at Harbor Freight. This is what they have available now. About $10 ea.

You might find them cheaper on eBay.
