Actually does work!!!

I grabbed a defunct old turboflex I had all but discarded (actually might use it soon for an event)

Bought some of the stuff

Put it in a container with the liquid at 5.47pm last night...

At 8.25pm...

And now 6.43am next day (12hrs)

I'll update tonight after work when it's had a full 24hrs.

Ok so home tonight from work, a smidge under 24hrs. I left it where the house was warm and the sun would be able to reach it to speed up the chemical action.

Maybe too long, not much extra gain but some staining and tarnishing. I removed the lead (now yellow from the dye) and washed and dried it thoroughly on the shoe rack in my clothes dryer

Maybe the same as CLR cleaner.   It also removes rust, lime and calcium just by soaking.

I do have some CLR Clear but haven't had much success with it elsewhere

An online comparison someone else did with a range of products showed it didn't perform as well in their test as Evaporust. But that's just their test, I try and prove/disprove things myself.

I just googled it and WalMart carries it.

I have used the product before and it works great.  I dipped the bottom of two doors off my 79 z28 project car and it took all of the rust off without stripping the paint.  It even took the rust from under the edge of the paint and left the old laquer alone.  In fact, I did not even have to strip the paint afterword.  It even left the brass and lead on some other parts that I put in to strip.   The stuff is very safe to use and can even be poured down the drain after you are done. Key to the process is heat, it likes to be warm.  The warmer the faster it works, cold just shuts the chemical process down.  Just make sure to dry the chassis really well after you pull it out and rinse it as the metal now reacts very fast to moisture in the air.

For those who want to use it in the states, AutoZone and Oreilly sell it over the counter in small quart bottles.

But only $75 for 5 litres :)

Can't wait to see how it works later tonight.

Steve, what will you coat the "cleaned" chassis with to inhibit future rusting?

Haha, reminds me, years ago, I was about 13, Ihad a baby bee engine that had rust on the piston. I managed to pull it apart and saw the rust. I briefly dipped the piston in some pool acid and the rust disappeared within seconds. Re-assembled the motor and used for quite some time after
