The usual suspects gathered for another bloodletting at The Doghouse in Gilbert, S.C. on Saturday, Aug. 26. As always, we enjoyed the racing, the conversation, the trash-talking, and most of all, the lunch provided by David Erickson. Grilled Bratwurst with potato salad. All I needed was a cold beer, but I digress.
Although we rarely have a large group, it's a good bunch of racers.
From L to R: Richard Sylvester (and Lady, his dog in his lap); David Erickson; Dan Parker (AKA Rocky the Flying Squirrel, for reasons I'll be glad to explain some other time); Marty Cwiakala; yours truly, Jim Beasley.
As you can see from the pic, our weapons-of-choice on this day were Retro Can-Ams. For the most part, we follow IRRA® rules, with minor exceptions.
The racing was quick. In fact, I can recall feeling that I was working myself into a slight sweat from the intensity. We have a four-lane track, which means one sit-out / turn marshal each heat and five heats each of three rounds.
Richard made a nice start, but seemed to experience some controller issues in the second round. He finally began to find his groove again, but it was too late. Marty had another strong showing, too, keeping the heat on all of us. Dan recently experienced an extended layoff from slots, but we were glad to have him back in the fold racing with us again. And David was mistakenly prepared to race flexis, not Can-Ams. No prep time spent getting his car ready.
When all was said and done, my tuning fork chassis took top honors:
I really believe the tuning fork is the way to go. I've built a second one that I plan to use in our next Retro gathering.
Next month: Flexis!
Until then, keep it in the slot,
