Now available

Oversize .820" x 3/32" axle.

These tires are actually .830" - .835" OD, but you'll probably see in my photo, at that dia. they are just short of "cleaning up", 100%.

T9S3N* - premium rubber version of small .400" hub / 8703PP

T9M3N* - premium rubber version of medium .470" hub / 8713PP (hub formally known as Prince large)

$13.29 pair

This is the premium, dense rubber, that racers seem to be so excited about in this thread;

http://slotblog.net/...ber#entry691672

It definitely has a different appearance, has a firmer spongy feel, and as one would expect, it's heavier.

A premium small pr. of tires, weighs 5.5G a pair, compared to it's non-premium counterpart, 8703PP, which weigh in at 4.7G per pair.

I don't have any personal experience with this rubber, but I would guess, but not stake my life, that it's appication would be the same as it's similar stock #.

IOW, for Flat tracks and situations, where you are looking for maximum bite.

This flash photo shows the tighter pore structure, of the premium rubber, on the right.

The very minor, "not 100% cleaned up" issue, mentioned in the above text. You can see sort of a smiley face at 3 o'clock. IIRC, it is mostly with the medium hub tire.

Just to be clear, we were aware of the "clean up" issue on the medium rim tires (the small rim tires are fine) and contacted Mike before shipping. We explained we would be able to clean them up perfectly but that would leave us close to the 0.820 specification, not the normal +0.010" - 0.020" over size we normally target. He suggested we leave them as is and so we did. Without track testing we can't tell if it will have a performance impact or if it is just cosmetic, it's that close.

I don't want people to think we weren't aware of shipping less than 100% quality tires and our customer discovered the issue. (OK, it has happened before ... but not this time. lol).

This is another example of the improved communication between JK and the raceways we are striving for.

Yes, in my quest to get all the rest of the info posted, I omitted to mention I OK'ed them to be shipped, not 100% cleaned up.

Now seeing them in person, it's really a trivial detail.

Is this rubber good for racing retro on Gerding Kings?

My guess would be NO as compared to say something like the Alpha medium wonder rubber or even JK Products wonder rubber tires.  I have a couple pair arriving in the mail this week and will have one of the local legends  :laugh2: at BPR do some track testing on both the flat and king tracks this coming Saturday.  I'm hoping these tires prove to be a winner on BPR's flat track.

My opinion, without any practical experience, would probably match Tim's.

Sorry, I didn't post in quite the detail I would have liked to, but at some point, I had to stop this thread, and get to the post office, to get some of these shipped out to customers.

I got more of these in today.

I shipped these out to 3 racers that are racing on a very competitive, Retro flat track race, this weekend.

Hopefully they will all get them on time.

It will be interesting to see if they are a dream......or a dud. LOL

Any chance this rubber will also be available on Big Daddy hubs?

I'll have to ask.

The PO really dropped the ball this week.

Only one of my 3 orders, of these, going out to SoCal, got there on time.

Hi Jim,

Probably not. The rubber is so limited that I will leave it for the smaller hubs.

I believe Jason Holmes used the "Premium Medium (T9M3N) and won our flat track F1 race. There were a number of guys running, testing, and whatnot. These look promising for the flat track at BPR.

I got a text from Jason.

He said he did not want to cut-down a pair for F1, and won with Alphas.

He did confirm, in testing, that they were .05 faster than Alphas on his Can-Am, and that they were bitier than regular JK PP rubber.

OK, Mike, thanks for that. I know he was fooling around with them when we were practicing.

The Alphas are a heck of a tire for BPR's flat track but, those new JKs sure do look good.

Haruki

These tire would have way to much bite for a Gerding King Track.  Much better for flat track racing.  Awesome tire I think for that purpose.

I put a pair of the small hub ones on a F1 car I lent out yesterday in our monthly fun race/Sano-warmup.

The driver, Eldon Wright, in his first Retro F1 race, and his 3rd or 4th Retro race, ever, came in 4th.

I was impressed enough, that with the King track not nearly at the traction level we see at Sano, I went ahead and put the same pair on my CanAm car and raced them.

They performed as I expected.

I never drove off of the track on my own, and I was a bit off the pace, compared to the fast guys on Wonder rubber, Howie and Ricky D.

I still finished 3rd, a lap out of 2nd and two laps out of 1st.

Posts #6 and 8 at;

I was impressed with the wear, for a high traction tire.

After two 16 minute races, the tires, which started at approx. 830", were at approx. 808" and .815".

Saturday I ran the JK premium tires in Two races on the hill climb at CMS in Atlanta. Finished second in both Stock and F1. Chris Barns won both races using the JK Premium rubber he mounted on rims I think.

They run great and The set I ran should be good for another race.

Mike, did the increased traction build more heat into the motor?

I would say no.

I ran my fast time of the race, the 7th heat, on Purple.

But the car really never felt over-tired.

The only time the car seemed tight, was the last 30 seconds, or so, in the lead-on, on Black, when I backed off knowing I wasn't going to catch Howie or Ricky.

I tried them this weekend on various cars. The way they duro out I was thinking they would be somewhere between naturals and treated, but I was wrong as they really sticky up once you get heat into them. They run and feel a lot like blue label Kelly intimidators. We started with a clean track and glue extremely light.

For stock car they were too stuck on our hillclimb the last minute of each heat to the point that I could drive out of the slot in the donut. They were the best on my F1, but after how stuck my stock car was, I chose to run naturals for the long haul. For CanAm they worked great early in the day when the clean track was loose and I was able to run sub 5 second lap times, but later in the day after 2 classes of racing there was too much bite.

Dont let the semi firm feeling fool you, these are an aggressive traction tire.

Congrats to Dale Yamashita on his win over the weekend, at BP, on the Flat Track, using the premium JK Premium rubber tires.

In communication with Dale, he said he did some last minute testing and found an extra .05 in speed, on the 2 lanes he had time to try them on.

Dale ran a big 307 laps, but felt he left a lap or 2 on the track, by not testing more, and maybe narrowing them a bit.

And interesting, on the other end of the country, and on a King, at his dad's HVR Raceway, Jimmy Williams Jr. took the wins in GTC and F1, using the Premium tires, running up against wonder and thunder rubber.

From the results, it looks like Ed Sohl gave him a race in GTC, but he had an absolute dominating performance in F1.
