I got behind this guy, on the way back, from the post office.
(edit-I expected to see SS396)
It's hard to read in my pics, but it clearly said SS502.
I guess it's not a matching numbers car. LOL

He lit 'em up a bit twice, from stop signs.
But nothing like I saw a guy in a Viper, when they first came out. LOL

Chevy made the 502 c. i. in the early 90's. It was a crate engine offerred in the Performance Parts catalog.

I'm thinking those tires won't last long.
Yeah, I thought it looked a little under-tired myself.

My point was I expected to see "SS396" when I pulled up behind it.
A high school classmate of my wife, John Ramm, has a 502 crate motor in his 61 Chevy.
It was a finalist in this year's Popular Hot Rod, Hometown Hero, photo contest.

a 6.2L or 376 cu small block GM LS motor would destroy that 502. You can take a 5.3 out of a chevy pick up and put a small turbo on it with stock heads and cam and get 550 hp to the rear wheels.

I dunno. IIRC, back in the late 70s, early 80s, various F1 teams were getting up to 1600 HP for qualifying, out of a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine. But they weren't exactly running on gasoline, either.

It is an old normally aspirated term.

Good size rear-end down there for that 502. Or am I seeing shadows? Always liked those 396's and the 409's.
