Oh, man. I've often thought about Rande, and how he was getting along. I knew he hasn't been well for a few years.

Another icon has passed. Rest well, RPM.

Sad news indeed.

I never met Rande but know that he was a serious contributor to the hobby and respect what he did.

My prayers go out to his friends and family that they find comfort.

Sad news. I knew Rande and his younger brother as young racers who came to the Tri-State races in the Midwest with their Dad who crewed for them in the early '70s. He and his brother are now both gone.

Decades passed and I was out of slot racing and Rande went on to experience a lifetime lived with the ups and downs of slot racing on a national and international level. He had forays into big time racing working on Trans-Am cars for Marshall Robbins when they ran the former factory Mustangs of Bud Moore. Livin' the dream of all us... real race cars and slot cars.

Our paths crossed again when Ron Hershman, after seeing my name in Slotblog, made contact with me and suggested I come and visit the first R4 race which I did. That lead to things that brought me back to slot racing so many decades after my last experience. Rande was there and it was just like we had seen each other at a race a couple weeks before. He built my first Retro Can-Am chassis. He was helpful in pointing out things I needed to know to get back up to speed with the realities of slot racing of today. We had come a long way from the most sophisticated tool in your box was a single-speed Dremel...

Rande was also helpful to me as I was starting to race again. He would loan cars to established racers and newbies as needed at big races and did so with little or no fanfare. Class guy.

In recent years I had missed seeing Rande at the ORS and R4 races since his slot racing and life interests had gone in different directions. I tried to keep up with his health, which was up and down in later years. It seems as though it has now run its course this past week with the loss of him to his family and those of thus who viewed him as a slot racing friend and associate. My thoughts especially go to Ron Hershman who was Rande's racing partner and true friend for a time that spanned decades. Let's all take a moment and value all of our friends and relationships as we say goodbye to Rande and have a greater appreciation for those in our lives.

RIP, Rande.

Very sad to hear. My thoughts go out to his family, friends esp Ron and those in slot cars. Together, they were the most formidable team esp in those early years of Retro. Rande was always the pro's pro, professional as both a driver and a builder. You knew that when you raced Ron you had to race Rande's brain, too.

RIP, Rande.

Like Steve, I met Randy way back when and I had the good fortune to know Randy as a competitor, a teammate, and best of all a friend.

RIP.

Rande was the best I've ever seen at fine-tuning a slot car.

RIP, Rande.

We have lost one of the best ever.

I grew up racing slot cars in Indianapolis. I was a 10-year old kid, but Rande always encouraged me and gave me advice. He among others always treated me like I belonged.

My dad and Rande are responsible for the racer I am today. As a kid I used to ask my dad before all the big races,"Do you think Rande and Ron are gonna be there?" Randy and Ron were nearly impossible beat, And among the best I've raced to this day. Rande gave this kid from Indy the hope and the skill to race with the who's who of slot cars at a young age. Although I never had the opportunity to reconnect with Rande now that I'm an adult, I think of racing him when I get in a close tight race. And I know he's not coming out!

Rest in peace, RPM, It is an honor to have cut my teeth racing with a legend. Condolences to family and friends.
