First off let me say that I'm am by no means a jairus or noose when it comes to painting. Light years ahead of me. But I feel that people have helped me when I had questions (as annoying as they may be). I am not an expert at slot cars and most people won't except a monitary gratuity when they loan me parts or tune in my car. So the next best thing I can do is paint a body for them and hope they like it. I mean who doesn't like a free body. This one happens to be the most elaborate. I attended my very first major event this year (tom thumb hobbies r4) and noticed that poor Eric balicki was pretty much running on fumes and burning the candle at both ends. Since he does so much and asks for nothing I felt I should show a little appreciation . This what I came up with. I had given him this shortly after the r4, but happen to run across these pics the other day so I figured I would share

Nice job!  Some of the details get a little lost in the darker side panel colors, but it works!

I don't know Eric, but Joe, that was a nice thought you did. :)  Are you painting your designs & numbers on the outside or the inside of bodies?  I notice you're using a paper template for these in your last photo.

Very cool.

I'm honored my tech tool is on it, and associated with one of the truly great guys in slot racing, Eric Balicki.

First of all thanks for all the kind responses. Second to answer some questions, yes Bill my designs are painted on the outside. I'm not a great free hand drawing person, but in this scenario I did free hand draw the dial caliper and the tech tool on a post it note. After I was satisfied (easier to make corrections) I tape my design to the inside of the car. I'm kind of anal so it takes a hot minute for me to line everything up, this includes lettering as well. Also my other big down fall is I'm left handed, so when I paint, its right to left and bottom to top. When I painted this car I used tamiya acrylics, which they seem to stand up to the abuse (my cars spend more time on their lid than wheels). But I have slowly started to switch to one shot (spendy but flow way better)

When I gave Eric this body he was totally flabbergasted. I didn't tell him or anyone else, just did it. He said "what do you want for it" and I said" nothing, just put it on your car and enjoy it". He laughed and said" I'm gonna get a shadow box and mount it on the wall". Works for him works for me.

Joe,
Have you started on a body, with a big ol' Nikon camera, on the nose, yet? Lol

Joe does some fantastic work and I thanked him again for the body this past Friday.  Hopefully he will be racing with us on October 28.

I used the Chicagoland Tech Tool all last season and had it in hand for tech at the R4.
