A big thanks to everyone who showed up for the NWRRL race yesterday.  Bob Gugisburg came over from Montana,  Paul Dwyer, Tom Brown, and Dave Ziuchkovski came from Spokane, and John Matton, Dave Cuellar, Leroy Sanders, and Robert (forgot the last name) came up from Pullman/Palouse yesterday for a fantastic final race of the 2017 season.

We raced all 4 standard classes, with 8 racers each for Can Am, Stock Car, and Formula, and 7 in the Coupe Class -- 31 total entries.

The Palouse racers had less experience on the track, and Robert and John were completely new to the layout.  They caught on quickly, but the more experienced drivers took advantage of that benefit to edge the newcomers overall, although most heats were very competitive.

Tom Brown was suffering physically during the day, but his driving was not.  After taking barely eking out a podium 3rd in the first class, he won the remaining three classes.  They were close, however, with 2 lap victories each time.  I managed to eke out the win in the first class.  Paul Dwyer came within about 5' of having four podium finishes, and Bob G. had a second and 2 fourths for one of his best racing days ever.

The track was slow at the beginning, as it had not been recently cleaned and we did not hold a practice on Thursday to get it in shape.  But you can see by the lap totals and times that it got progressively faster as the day went on.

Can Am (four racers over 100 laps, slow track, range from 86 to 108 laps)

1.  Ken Bryan 108 laps

2.  Bob Gugisburg 103

3.  Tom Brown 101

4.  Paul Dwyer 101 (about 4' behind Tom)

5.  John Mattoon 95 (first ever race on the track)

6.  Leroy Sanders 92 (second race)

7.  Robert 92 (first race)

8.  Dave Cuellar 86  (lefty racing right handed after recent surgery)

I forgot to print fast laps, but all were above 6 seconds, I believe.

Stock Cars  (from no racers under 6 seconds to 4 racers under, range from 94 to 111)

1.  Tom Brown 111 laps, 5.89

2.  Paul Dwyer 109, 5.80

3.  Ken Bryan 104, 5.88

4.  Robert 100, 6.19

5.  Leroy Sanders 97, 6.60

6.  John Mattoon 96, 5.95

7.  Bob Gugisburg 96, 6.17 (I think John won this tie, but didn't write it down)

8.  Dave Cuellar 94, 6.44

Formula Cars (a few more laps and a little faster, 5 racers under 6 seconds, 1 racer barely under 5.5, range from 96 to 114)

1.  Tom Brown 114 laps, 5.48

2.  Paul Dwyer 112, 5.57

3.  Ken Bryan 105, 5.68

4.  Bob Gugisburg 100, 6.22

5.  Robert 99, 5.83

6.  John Mattoon, 98, 5.72

7.  Dave Cuellar 96, 6.35

8.  Leroy Sanders 96, 6.44

Coupe (more laps, another .2 to .4 drop in lap times, laps range from 90 to 116).  Every racer was within at most 2 laps of one another racer.

1.  Tom Brown 116 laps, 5.39

2.  Ken Bryan 114, 5.54

3.  Paul Dwyer 114, 5.34

4.  Bob Gugisburg 105, 6.09

5.  Dave Ziuchkovski, 104, 5.85

6.  Dave Cuellar, 92, 5.78

7.  Robert 90, 6.02

I did manage a group picture (minus me as the photographer) after Dave Z arrived and before Leroy and John had to leave.  I will post pictures in the next post, as I am having difficulty under this browser.
