Hawk 7 two-speed "wall" syndrome

Just be thankful your survival as a member of the slot car racing species is not dependent on your ability to complain about your shortcomings as a racer.

Addendum: if all the motors are identical there will always be another reason losers lose.

I've had several of these two-speed motors and I concur with Jersey John. Once the brushes are fully seated the two-speed effect is gone, at least that has been what happened on all of my HR and H7 motors.
One other thing that has happened on several of my motors is that when the two-speed effect goes away the magnetic "cog" seems to increase. I only have 20 motors so that is only what I have experienced with my limited supply of motors.
That has been my experience as well.

After a few years probably once or twice hooking it up inorrect;y has had a damaging effect to the transistor even though it appears to be OK. I screwed myself this Fall Brawl because my controller wiper arm was hitting a piece of plastic in the controller. The blast relay was not kicking in plus I was a little short of the end of the resistor board, losing about 1-1/4 volts on the top all the time, thinking my motors were dogs.
Do a quick test with a voltmeter. First read your white track power; let's say it's 12 volts. Next hook the wire up to the black of your controller and bottom out the trigger. The readings should be very very close. My difference was 1-1/4 volts. Any idea how much that came off of my top speed?
Sorry for going off topic but there's so many other things that can slow a car down.
Are your bearings in correctly and parallel? Can your axle slide in and out with hardly any effort or is it binding?
I think we need a topic about things that slow a car down.
Have a good day, folks, and have a great Thanksgiving.

Does anyone have R motors for sale? The only way I can make a 7R fast is with gear but evidently I am doing it wrong. Hopefully, I can find a motherload of R motors I can gear normally.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you can make them fast with gear that does not make them worse, only different.
Gear them as they need to be geared. But then I am not the big time racer.

Did you try the 7R-motored car you lent me at the Sano at the Brawl?
It still seemed strong, the last heat, when I held you and Fox off, from black lane, for second.
I know it was still strong in the seventh heat, when I almost matched Willy's purple lane time.

Yep. The reason I loaned you the car was to see if a 26 would hold. The gear and motor held up. I put a great trigger at the drivers panel. Even that combo was not enough to beat an R motor geared properly.
Some 7Rs will last geared 9/26 or 10. Many motors will not.
Point proven at the Fall Brawl. Now we all scramble to get as many Rs as possible before the next Premier event.

So... I got out when the Puppy was euthanized... never owned or run one of these exact motors, some TSR, Falcons, Evils the first 7s.
... but...
I was at my local slot shop today and upon inspection of one I think I know the fourth reason for the Texas Two-Step that Ron isn't telling anyone unless they are of importance and ask nicely. I missed the YouTube TV episode and there here is no good reason Ron shouldn't be heard on this.
The mysterious phenomenon hasn't been discussed that I know of.
As former non-A Mainer I have no street cred. Ron Hershman, "for the love of motors," please tell them... ha-ha.

Who knows of the fictional Moriarty?

A question for Cheater...
Has the IRRA® given any recent thought to making only the new 7R motors legal for major events?

The new 7R is the problem here... Make that the only legal motor and watch the entries decline.

The "Most Feared Man in Retro Racing" has just dropped the mic!!
