It is official, Northern Colorado has a new slotcar raceway.

Duffy's SlotCar Raceway is slated to be open to the public by late January/early February 2018. We started moving tracks in this past weekend and as you can see I have a lot of cosmetic work ahead of me, but the facility is 5,000 sq. ft. so we will have lots of room for varying tracks. Tracks will be an American blue King, an Ogilvie Hillclimb, and a 1,000 ft. drag strip to start. We are trying to work a deal on a tri-oval as I type. Future plans will be either an American orange or a flat track of some sort.

LaSalle is a small but growing community, roughly 35 miles north of Denver and 5 miles south of Greeley for reference.

Plans include - weekly racing, rentals, arrive and drive beginner league, birthday and team building events, autistic therapy, full parts department, concessions, etc.

I am cutting back some from my normal profession to concentrate deeper on the Duffy product line as well as the raceway. Looking forward to the challenege and getting beat up a little.

Address -

Duffy's SlotCar Raceway

125 N 2nd St. (which is 85, which is Can-Am highway)

LaSalle, CO 80645

Phone number  soon

Will update Greg with finished pictures and updated information once we get closer to opening date.

That's a long way for me to drive to race.

Looks and sounds great, I am glad to see a new slot shop opening anywhere any time.

Good luck with it.

WTG, Matt!

It even has that vintage slot shop supermarket look to the building front.  :good:

Are you putting in a drop tile ceiling?

Also... is there a good 'pot shop' near by? :o

LOL, Bob.

Dunno how near to LaSalle, but they're all over the Denver area. And you would probably qualify for the ones that only sell medicinal weed, rather than recreational. More of the former, I am told.

The retro look was an added bonus. There is old school teal tile underneath the carpet even.

For now I am keeping the ceiling open.

And a big thank you from all of Duffy's friends and fans. Naming the raceway after him is a very heartwarming and noble touch.

It is great, but we are honestly in a bit of a bubble compared to a lot of the US. The cost of housing is by far the biggest turnoff. I have added to and revised your list -

pros?
weed is legal
Pikes Peak
open carry

sunshine 300+ days per year

snow typically melts within 1-2 days unless you are directly in the mountains

craft beer a plenty

great state and national parks including hiking trails

very little humidity

unlimited outdoor activities

great mom and pop Mexican restaurants

resale value on Subaru's is very good here

you can still be a cowboy in some areas

9 bald eagles within 300 yards of my backdoor

In general friendly people

cons?

weed is legal
cold winters (the Midwest is colder)
open carry

cost of housing

rattlesnakes

8,000 people move here per month

lack of quality Italian restaurants and ice cream parlors

My first time in Colorado, about 40 years ago, the big complaint of my friends there was the lack of pizza shops. Five years later, there was one on just about every corner. :)  I worked in Littleton during 1995-96, but Mexican & Oriental restaurants were my favorite then.

Many raceways have had the benefit of multiple business under one roof.  Coffee shop/ice cream/Pizza parlor on a highway could not hurt to pay the rent all year along with the slot recreation.

Hang a few ceiling fans to help reduce the heat bills along with upgrading the lighting to LED - before the tracks are in place.

I had a chance to drive from Durango to Denver and the San Juan and Rio Grande National Forrest contain some of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen in the United States. Talk about outdoor activity. I could see spending a lot more time around Durango.

We are half done on everything, which means we have finished nothing, lol.

I will post pictures on Monday of the current progress. Thus far we have put down 49 gallons of paint on the walls alone, Restored over 20 8 foot lights, spent 28 hours putting down 60 gallons of stripper to remove the carpet glue off the VCT tile. We found out that mosquito eggs can stay dormant for a very long time and hatch with moisture. I would never of believed it until we were swarmed for a week by newly hatched mosquitoes in 35-40 degree weather from our fresh paint hitting very old and dry fiber board/paneling. Every little thing we do always makes a huge improvement!

You know I was very reluctant about this for a very long time. I always questioned if it was worth it, why put all the time and resources into something that at the time I felt most would not appreciate. I was dead wrong! The help I have received has been over whelming. It has been an experience that makes the sinus infection from all the stripper worth it, lol. Paul Muirr, Alan Wilkinson, Rodney Leffler, Rowdy, Dale Gritzmacher, Kevin Mahever, Allen Reeder, Cooper Sheldon have been the glue that have kept this deal moving forward. None of this would have been possible without their help, none of it!
