I notice on Pro Slot's Facebook page they announced the new stock of PS4002FK now comes with a tied arm

We don't have (m)any issues down here with thrown winds but maybe the longer, banked, taller geared 13+v tracks do?

Good to see anyway..

Someone's going to see that as a defect. 3... 2...1...

I would have preferred a different color string...

The comm has always been trued. They wouldn't run as fast as they do if it wasn't.

They might have taken a fresh pass on the arm they used for the picture, seen below, along with the text from their Facebook post.

Hello Everyone,

We have listened to the racers and made the PS-4002FK more reliable.

We have tied the commutators to prevent magnet wire breakage. The motors are entirely the same. We simply made the motor more reliable.

These motors are available at your favorite distributor.

I know others may see things differently, but it's hard for me to see that tying as much more than a decoration, especially on a com with folded and welded tabs.  Still, I guess it couldn't hurt.

Well a couple of things will happen for sure either all the new tied coms will be faster and all the old stock will be junk or vice versa. :)

This also prevents "accidental" :whistle3: timing changes.

I think it’s fair to say Zippity is right, they don’t come with comms looking like that.

Then there's that big ol' knot spinning around in there at a good clip.

As for how nice an shiny the comm looks, that's not an issue of any kind. You take a brand new arm that looks like that and wait a couple of weeks, throw in a boat ride from China, and they tend to show some "patina." The motors still run just fine.

... oh and, has anyone ever seen a real-life Whopper that looks anything at all like the ones in the commercials?

I think the "pull-out" JK arms that Alpha sold three or four years ago had the same looking comm wraps.

"Same"?  Same manufacturer?  Same factory?  Who knows, but it's the same "type" and built/wound to a similar spec to sell at a similar price point. Both are an excellent performance value for the price paid.

RH and PS FK arms are similar looking but the comm is spun about 90 degrees on the RH due to the brush arrangement. Correct John Havlicek?

Beats me Dennis.  I really don't pay that much attention to these motors unless someone asks me to or I need some parts :)  The arms are similar-enough "generally" that, whether the same or not, they are "basically the same" to me anyway!

You're correct Dennis. They look almost the same but are not interchangeable. I tried. :dash2:

Well a few weeks back I half burnt a 1 month old fk, so thought it prudent to get a spare. I managed to recover the half burnt motor, still running in my f1 but I bought a new motor. Our local club guy that imports got a new batch. I immediately noticed less cog on the motors. The brush hoods that I checked on the new batch were all tight and looked well aligned. I wondered about the cog though so I compared the magnet strength to an older motor and it was indeed a bit weaker on the new motor. Of course just measured on the back of the magnets. I installed it in my LMP and it is very smooth and fast. I went and bought 3 more (just in case the next batch is not as good). 3 of the 4 run pretty much exactly the same current and rpm on 4v as well as a quick squirt at 12v (wearing glasses of course Mike ). The 4th one is an absolute screamer so keeping that one for the 2018 nats
All have less cog and weaker magnets. Hoping now that this is their new standard!!
