Not sure where this should be posted. Does anyone one know of anyone who can rechrome plate plastic parts and what are your experiences with the process and platers?

Chrome Tech USA

These guys are consummate pros when it comes to model pieces.

Alternately, you may want to consider using the two-step Alclad II paint process depending on the project. :)

Justin,

Thanks for the lead.

Have you ever used them? I'm looking to get some headlight bezels replated.

Haven't used them myself but they've always come very highly recommended by other builders as well as by the now-closed resin casters Modelhaus.

I have used Chrome Tech a number of times and not even used up all the parts I had plated. You can send loose parts or full trees of parts.
Their web site explains all the details.

I contacted Chrome Tech and they are unable to help me. Very nice and informative folks but parts that need replating were originally electroplated and that presents a problem for replating. Chrome Tech could not even suggest who I should contact for my situation.

Any other shops or suggestions are welcome.

Use Liquid Chrome, it comes in like a fine tip marker.

Bob, are you talking about parts for a "real" car? ( Don't send any hate mail please  :diablo: )

There are places who do this but it's real expensive.

May cost a couple hundred if it's one to one stuff.

Let us know exactly what it is and what they are from if you can.

May be able to help a little further.

If the parts are plastic, try Vacuum Orna-Metal

It's where I get plastic and resin parts "vacuum metalized." Ask for Frank, and if he says it can be done then send them to me and I'll add them to racks that I will soon drop off. Only 10 minutes from my home!

Guys,

What I currently want replated is a headlight bezel for a Rupp minibike, roughly 6'x4'x1'. It is already plated and I am looking for a replate.

Will contact Vacuum Orna-Metal tomorrow, Thanks for the lead.

I'm sure I will need something replated in the future and there are probably others at this site who will need something plated/replated as well so this thread is turning into something quite educational.

If the bezel is plastic, call Frank. If it's metal, then Joe is right and good luck.

Brad,

Thanks for the lead. Frank at Vacuum Orna knows the exact part we want plated and his price is reasonable.

Actually a friend of mine is going to use them this time around.

Update....sent some items to Vacuum Orna-Metal plating in Michigan as Brad Blohm suggested and the items returned yesterday.

Attention and care was taken when buffing not to knock off of some raised lettering formed in the oem parts and the parts have a nice clean bright luster. Overall very pleased with their work and the turnaround was very good also. If you need plastic plated these guys are a definite go to.
