Hi Folks,

I've got an old Ford GT Spyder vac body I'm trying to identify.

It's not the same as the one used by Champion.  It's not very well modeled. You can see the lack of detail around the intakes and the air intakes on the bonnet are all wrong. There are holes in the side that may have been made for wire clips like those used by Russkit, or they may have been for self-tappers and the body never mounted. The decals are all paper and may be the best guide to the maker.

I thought of Midori at first, but I don't think they made a spyder version of the Ford GT.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Steve C

Revell?

I know they did a Spyder, but I think other companies did as well.

That has to be it. The body details and paint colour look identical, and the screws match the hole positions. Interesting the decals are slightly different. The catalogue car probably has pre-prod ones.

I assume these came with the assymetrical chassis?

Yep, for sure with the aluminum one, but I'm not sure the Spyder came with the original brass/piano wire asymmetrical chassis - in fact I've only ever seen the Genie with that one.

Just for information the Lancer roadster was the Can Am X-1 big block 427. All the other slotcar roadsters were based on small blocks 289 like the Revell

Any chance you would want to let me pour it so we can continue with repops? If you donate the body, I will give you two clear in return. Email me at Cavemanbodeez@gmail.com

Just saw both the Genie and the Ford GT40 roadster new in the box, with this chassis, so guess they did!

PS: found another GT40 roadster body, not quite the same, maybe Lancer... will post photos a bit later.

Here's the Revell body, since I had one I found in a storage box...

And here's the other body I bought many years ago, at Bob's in Michigan - no label, but a lot of these bodies packaged like this in plastic bags were by Lancer, so let's assume that...

I also have at least 4 or 5 junker painted body of the long-nose version of the Spyder - you can see which one was favored for racing at the time!
