Another fabulous Petrolicious video, featuring Dario's younger brother, Marino. Of the top five or ten cars I'd give just about anything to drive on a track, the T61 is definitely on the list.

It seems strange to hear a Scottish brogue coming from someone with the surname Franchiti, but both Marino and Dario were born in Scotland...

Why did Marino get to drive Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason's Birdcage? Most probably because he's married to Nick's second daughter, Holly. LOL... She's a well-known racer of historic cars, just like her dad.

Petrolicious has also posted a gallery of stills from the video shoot.

Those were the days and those were the cars.

I recall the first time I saw a Birdcage - NY Auto Show in 1961. While it is probably a combination of nostalgia and age-related grumpiness, I find that, compared to cars of this era, today's cookie-cutter rolling billboards interest me not at all.

I agree, Alan. I often admit to being a grump old fart on many planes.

Great film. It's a shame that modern tires and downforce ruined the visual beauty of the four-wheel drift. :icon22:

Good video!

Don't feel bad, Greg, I have never driven a Tipo 61 either. I have driven an OSCA-Maserati which had essentially the same engine. An interesting feature of that motor is that the head is lapped to the block, no head gasket.

I noticed that on Mason's car the exhaust is reversed. Possibly it is a muffler, something the race cars didn't have. I have never seen that on any other T61.

A couple of years ago somebody brought a T61 copy to a local show that was so good it could not be told from the real thing. Recently Bonhams sold one of these built by the same guy. Of course, they correctly catalogued the car as a reproduction.
