Harbor Freight has some plastic boxes that have a number of small plastic boxes inside that are the right size for motors. I have also seen a much nicer box that has cutouts in foam but I have no idea who sells them.

I use a pill case from walmart, $1.48
A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

I have started storing Retro Hawk motors in old tire tubes. easy to keep up with and store and I keep getting new ones free.

I store all my motors in tire tubes. Keep them upright and they can't come in contact with any metal objects that could possibly drain the magnets. And like you said, the price is right.

Found some at Dollar Tree for the amazing price of $1 ea. A little DIY and padding can be added. The case holds my FK motors tight enough that I don't worry about it.
