Driver simple

A Great driver can take a car that's .2 off and still win in Most races But when there's 8 Great Drivers on the track you better be FAST

Great Driver,  LOL I am only great on my local track.  When I am away from home, I am a mid packer at best.  I need that faster car to make up for my faults as a driver.   So X-Pro  I vote  Great Driver !!!!

Most laps wins the race, not best time. Drivers keep it in the slot.

A great driver can take any car and make it work. He can look at the car and adjust to it. I have seen my car handle and go faster with a great driver." Darn " I need a lot of track time.

Driver.

In my over fifty years of experience I have always seen the best cars in the hands of the best drivers. Those who make fast cars but do not have the best driving skills tend to build at least one more model to make it available to the fastest driver buddy.

Having a fast car doesn't mean a thing I seen many racers win the race with a car that was two to three tenths slower than the rest but his driving was impeccable

Brian.  Someone told me manny manny years ago.  “ A slow car always handles well “   There are a lot of variables to conceder in answering your question.

But I would have to say,  That a good driver can get more out of a bad car then a bad driver can get out of a fast car.

There are a lot of variables to consider in answering your question.

I tried to make that point in post #4.

It depends on the degree of fastest car and degree of not being a great driver.

The best finish I recall with a non-great driver, was Manta Ray Price's 3rd place in CanAm, at Sano 5.

4th through 8th were all better drivers, but Ray had a great car.

The question presented in essence asks "Who will win the race on a given day?", the best car or the best driver?  Unfortunately the answer is that it depends on the competition.  I have won races just because I was the best driver, and won races because I had the fastest car.  BUT, when it comes to top level competition like the R/4 or Checkpoint Cup (just to name a few), the answer is clearly BOTH.  In these races the cars are all within a tenth or so of each other and the drivers are obviously excellent, it then boils down to which driver can combine his driving ability and car speed to win the race on that specific track on that specific day.  Oh yeah, LUCK, well let's not go there!   :o

I don't believe in luck...

Preparation and hard work to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves...  :D

If you don't believe in luck then your not getting the whole picture.  Luck sometimes plays a very big roll and it's usually bad luck.  Recently I saw the reports from a race where the TQ didn't even make it through the first heat, "bad luck".  Blasting through an area where 2-3 cars have wrecked and making it "good luck" not making it "bad luck".  You could attribute the decision to go or not go to good or bad driving skills but the end result is because of luck.

Alex see the whole track and is prepared for it. Other racers have also mention his ability to do this to me

A great driver can make a slug look good and get a good (notice not great) result. A fast (or fastest) car with a bad driver is disassembled and in the pits very quickly.

depends on how fast the car is on the field..... I remember a few years back when our Foamy won a F1 retro race (2013 Western Classic Race?)

He had the field covered..... very happy for him that day!
