How about an old guy who can still win races. Terry Tawney is 69 or 70 years old and he is still winning races in Florida. (Of course, we are all kind of slow in Florida (except DZ) ; it comes with the heat)

My oldest, father(89) and son(65), slot car duo, came in again last night.
Not a great pic, but here they are.
If you look hard, you can see the lack of Red brake wires on their controllers.

Sometime, age is a factor. Our local group is having a race tomorrow. I have been advised by my MD not to go out in the -5-10 degree wind chill temps we are currently experiencing. My first thought was "fiddle" then I ventured out briefly. Sorry guys, see ya next time.

Mike, where have those guys been running all these years if they "just" found out about your shop?

It had been real cold in Chicago, for about 10 days, so it was real flattering that they made the 35-40 minute drive, 2 or 3 times.Sometime, age is a factor. But on a Thursday night, one can probably get a parking spot with a 10-20 ft. walk, from their warm car,to inside my door.
I had another older customer, also make 2-3 trips, to the raceway, during the cold stretch.
He's only 79.
He told a cool story, last Friday, about going to the 1964 Grand Prix of Monaco, and along with getting to see Grace Kelly/ Princess Grace, he wound up pulling the race winner, Graham Hill, up a stone embankment, to escape the adoring crowd, while his friend filmed it with his 8MM movie camera.
They are new to my raceway.Mike, where have those guys been running all these years if they "just" found out about your shop?
They live much closer to a long existing raceway, Dad's, and had been frequenting there.
They said they were long time slot racers.
During slot racing's mini-resurgence, in the early 90's, there was probably 15-20 raceways with an hour of Chicago, proper, and quite a few, in their particular area of the northern suburbs.

These young gents came in tonight, for about the 7th or 8th time, since I started this thread.
Chuck will turn 90 in September.
Kreskin predicts "I see some free birthday track time, in Chuck's future". LOL

Plastic.
He was real proud, he had successfully added another fold, on this latest version.
I tried something similar, (not as nicely done), probably in around 2000, for G27.
I would call it a dismal failure, but I'm afraid all the dismal failure's would try to sue me, for sullying their name. LOL

Chuck and Jim come in almost every Tuesday night.
In 8 days, Chuck turns 90.
Lately, they've taken a liking to the Fiedler Flat.

There's the answer to keep raceways open guys... We keep trying to get new young racers without much success.. Just go and find the old guys that started slot car racing in the sixties and get em back! After all.. they're too old for track and field, a lot less interested in chasing girls and I'm pretty sure have more cash now than when they raced slot cars as kids.

I'm sick today, but dragged myself to the raceway, late, to get some work done.
With 90 year old Chuck and 66 year old Jim, coming in tonight, I added up the total years of the 6 guys in the raceway.
430 years, or 71.66 average, with me being the baby at 63.

That said, this afternoon, after 2 trying parties, on Saturday and earlier, Sunday, with 30 kids in each one, I hosted a smaller, 14 person party, that was mostly adults, celebrating a woman's 67 birthday.
One of the racers, was Linda's 99 year old mother, Grace.
She ran in one of the 2, 8 heat races, finishing only 2 laps behind one her other daughters, Jan.

One of our regular racers was in his early 90s, he was there racing at least once a week with his son, in his mid 60s. That dad passed away a couple years ago, but raced 2 days before he died
